About Sound and Light Show of Saint-Martin-en-Haut

The Son & Lumière de Saint-Martin-en-Haut is one of the largest sound and light shows in the Rhône region. Organized every summer by the MJC de Saint-Martin-en-Haut, it brings together nearly 400 volunteers for a two-hour live outdoor show performed on the medieval site of Rochefort, in the heart of the Monts du Lyonnais. Each edition tells a new original story written by a team of screenwriters, staged through several scenes to the rhythm of sound and light, and concluded with a grand pyrotechnic show. The 2026 edition, titled « La Louve Céleste », plunges the audience into the world of a 1920s Paris cabaret, from August 10 to 14, 2026.

The largest sound and light show in the Rhône

The Son & Lumière is an entirely volunteer-run event that takes place every summer in Saint-Martin-en-Haut, in the Monts du Lyonnais. It is a two-hour live show performed outdoors, to the rhythm of sound and light, concluded by a pyrotechnic show.

A new story is created each year by a team of screenwriters. This comes to life on the medieval site of Rochefort, transporting young and old into a colorful universe.

Nearly 400 volunteers are involved in many areas: acting, costumes, sets, technical aspects, logistics, dance, singing, stage management.

The Son & Lumière is a moment of sharing, which creates bonds and brings together several generations around a common project.

An event supported by the MJC de Saint-Martin-en-Haut

The Son & Lumière is an event created and supported by the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture (MJC) of Saint-Martin-en-Haut since 1985. Forty editions later, it still brings together volunteers of all ages, united to create a 100% volunteer show.

Driven by the values of sharing, conviviality, and tolerance, each volunteer contributes their time, energy, and expertise to experience a human adventure that continues year after year.

Origin of the Son & Lumière

In its early days, the MJC did not organize a show but a Cultural Festival, bringing together several cultural events over a week in different locations in Saint-Martin-en-Haut: exhibitions, cinema screenings, nature outings, conferences, children's activities.

From 1985, the MJC decided to conclude the festival with a Sound and Light show, performed outdoors by costumed volunteer actors: the Son & Lumière was born. At that time, the show was itinerant, with several scenes scattered throughout the hamlet of Rochefort.

Building on its success, the Son & Lumière quickly developed to reach its current format: a show performed on the medieval site of Rochefort, which serves as a natural setting for a new creation each summer.

Sound and Light Show of Saint-Martin-en-Haut — edition 2026

41st edition of the Son & Lumière of Saint-Martin-en-Haut, from August 10 to 14, 2026. This year, the medieval site of Rochefort resonates with the songs and dance steps of the cabaret of La Louve Céleste.

Paris, 1920. The First World War is over, but it leaves behind the scars of its years of combat. Now an orphan and heir to a cabaret falling into oblivion, Suzanne wouldn't be able to manage alone. As for Lucien, a soldier returning from the war disfigured, he is now rejected by society and doesn't know how to cope. Will an unexpected encounter and the sincere friendship that binds them allow them to get the cabaret back on its feet and rediscover their former joy, even as the first signs of a new war loom over them?

Five evening performances, from Monday, August 10 to Friday, August 14, 2026: doors open at 8:30 PM, show starts at 9:30 PM, ends around midnight.
