The 8 May 2026 long weekend offers an ideal window to explore the Yvelines, a département travellers often pass through without stopping. No need to look far afield: between Versailles, Le Vésinet and Rambouillet, three very different events activate the area at the same time. Royal heritage, signature jazz and a century-old village tradition — a perfect trio for an off-the-beaten-track weekend, less than an hour from Paris.
Grandes Eaux Musicales — Versailles fountains dance to Lully's music
This is probably the most spectacular of all Île-de-France events in spring, and it is in full swing during the long weekend. The Grandes Eaux Musicales at the Château de Versailles bring Le Nôtre's gardens to life every weekend from April to November. The 2026 season started on 1 April and runs until 1 November.
The idea: while the legendary fountains spring to life — Latone basin, Encelade grove, Dragon and Trois Fontaines — baroque music by Lully, Rameau, Charpentier and Gluck echoes through the groves. The walk lasts several hours, at your own pace, across the 35 kilometres of waterworks ordered by Louis XIV. Tickets start at 9.50 € for the Grandes Eaux Musicales, the Passeport ticket ranges from 10 to 27 €, free for under 6s. Booking essential during long weekends. See the festival page.
Vésinet Jazz Métis Festival — six days of cross-pollinated jazz west of Paris
The Vésinet Jazz Métis Festival is one of Île-de-France's better-kept jazz secrets. Its 2026 edition runs from 7 to 12 May at the Théâtre du Vésinet, right across the long weekend. Born in 2015 in its current form as the heir to the Vésinet Jazz Piano Festival, it has become a meeting point where jazz, world music, funk, soul and Latin sounds converse.
The lineup, ambitious and demanding, brings together major names of the genre and emerging talents of the international scene. A human-scale format, in a comfortable town in the Seine bend, offering a very different experience from a large urban festival. Standard tickets around 30 € per evening, reduced rates available. The right call for seasoned jazz fans, but also for anyone wanting to discover jazz in a venue with a carefully curated programme. See the festival page.
