From Massy to Étampes: 7 outing ideas for the May 8–10, 2026 weekend in Essonne

Hip-hop in Ris-Orangis, blues kicking off in Tigery, garden celebrations in Soisy-sur-Seine and Impressionism in Yerres: seven picks to cross the Essonne from 8 to 10 May 2026.

The 8 May 2026 long weekend lands at just the right moment in Essonne. Friday is a public holiday, plus Saturday and Sunday — three days to wander a département stretching from the southern outskirts of Paris all the way down to the borders of the Gâtinais. The festival programme mirrors that varied geography. In Ris-Orangis, an urban cultures festival is wrapping up its final weekend. In Tigery, a blues festival veteran of the Île-de-France is just opening. In Yerres, the start of an Impressionist summer in the very park that inspired Caillebotte. And across the département, town fêtes are running at full speed. Here is a seven-stop tour, from the urban north to the medieval south.

Trace(s) — the final stretch of the urban cultures festival in Ris-Orangis

This is the one to mark if you follow hip-hop, rap and hip-hop dance scenes in the Paris region. The 5th edition of Trace(s) closes precisely on Sunday 10 May, after two weeks of multidisciplinary programming. Launched in 2022 by Grand Paris Sud, the festival uses Le Plan in Ris-Orangis as its main stage and spreads into neighbouring towns. The final weekend serves up rap and hip-hop concerts, dance performances, film screenings and street art interventions, with both local artists and national names. A 3-day pass at €30, full price at €22, youth rate at €12: very fair value for a festival of this calibre. See the festival page.

Festival Blues à Sénart — opening riffs at the Silo de Tigery on Friday 8 May

Just as Trace(s) heads for its conclusion, another festival picks up: the new edition of the Festival Blues à Sénart. Founded in 1999, it is one of the oldest blues events in the Île-de-France. It opens on Friday 8 May for nine days of concerts, until 16 May. The format remains travelling, with dates across several towns of the Sénart-Essonne area before the final concert at the Silo in Tigery. The atmosphere is more intimate than the big Paris venues: small halls, low capacity, a music-loving crowd. Expect around €15 to €20 for the Silo concert, with variable rates elsewhere. Programming that speaks both to blues purists and to those discovering the genre through its rock and soul cousins. See the festival page.

Festival Caillebotte de Yerres — Impressionism opens in the park that inspired the painter

Another highlight of Friday 8 May: the opening of the Festival Caillebotte de Yerres, which then runs until mid-October. The Caillebotte Estate, listed as a historic monument, is the perfect setting for this summer season devoted to Impressionist art. This is where Gustave Caillebotte painted some of his major works, in Yerres (91330), 20 km from Paris. The programme includes temporary exhibitions, open-air painting workshops, guided tours of the estate and concerts in the park. Free entry to the exhibitions, ticketed workshops and tours. Ideal for a cultural stroll with family or as a couple, with the Seine in the background and the charm of the Yerres riverbanks. See the festival page.

Fête de Soisy-sur-Seine — the Garden Festival on the riverbank, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May

For a quieter weekend, head to Soisy-sur-Seine and its Garden Festival (Fête des Jardins), held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May. The village, bordered by the Seine and backing onto the Parc du Grand Veneur, hosts two days of floral exhibitions, association-led activities and workshops focused on gardens and nature. Free access, food on site, family-friendly atmosphere. Exactly the kind of outing to pencil in when you want a green day without leaving the Paris area. See the festival page.

Opéra de Massy — opera season in full swing

Looking for a more formal evening? Head to the Opéra de Massy, the cultural flagship of the département. This 1,200-seat Italian-style theatre, directed by Jack-Henri Soumère, runs its opera season from September to late June. The 8 May long weekend falls right in the heart of the programme, with operas, ballets, symphonic concerts or dance evenings depending on the week. Tickets range from €10 to €75 depending on the production and seat category. A great option to combine a festive weekend with a dressier evening, in Massy, just 20 minutes from central Paris by RER. Check the precise schedule on the official site before booking. See the festival page.

Fête d'Étampes — the medieval capital of the Gâtinais turns up the activity

South of the département, in Étampes (91150), a former royal town and the medieval capital of the Gâtinais. The Fête d'Étampes covers municipal highlights all year long, with several activities planned during the long weekend. The cultural season at the Théâtre Les Grands Solistes is in full swing, and the Arènes occasionally host shows and evenings. A good chance to combine a heritage visit — the Notre-Dame collegiate church, the Guinette tower, the historic mansions — with a free festive programme in the medieval centre. Recommended for visitors who like to mix culture and heritage. Programme to confirm with the tourist office. See the festival page.

Fête d'Arpajon — popular events at the heart of bean country

Final stop of our tour: Arpajon (91290), known since the Middle Ages for its beans. The Fête d'Arpajon punctuates the year with municipal highlights: carnival and funfair in spring, Music Day in June, Bastille Day in July, and of course the famous Bean Fair in September. Over the 8 May long weekend, the town offers free popular activities open to all audiences. The atmosphere is more local, more family-oriented, without the pressure of a major festival. A good plan for those who prefer mingling with locals over joining a huge crowd. See the festival page.

To sum up

Seven outings, a geography covering the whole département, and genuine variety: urban cultures in Ris-Orangis, blues in Tigery, Impressionism in Yerres, garden festival in Soisy-sur-Seine, opera in Massy, and municipal events in Étampes and Arpajon. Plenty to build a tailor-made programme, whether you stay close to the RER or treat yourself to a real escape down south. To explore more local events, take a look at all the festivals in Essonne.
