The celebration of the new vintage under the medieval halls of Clisson
Every first Sunday of December, the Winemakers of the Clisson Valley welcome the public under the magnificent medieval halls of the 15th century to celebrate the new Muscadet vintage. A must-see event in the Nantes vineyard, this friendly festival offers free tasting of the year's vintage upon purchase of a collectible screen-printed glass, discovery of the Clisson, Gorges, and Monnières-Saint-Fiacre communal appellations, oyster tastings, food trucks, and musical entertainment.
Since 1991, the Nouvel An du Muscadet has brought together wine and conviviality lovers every first Sunday of December under the medieval halls of Clisson. Created by the Winemakers of the Clisson Valley, this event has become a must-attend gathering in the Nantes vineyard, celebrating the birth of the new Muscadet Sèvre et Maine vintage each year.
What was initially just a local initiative by passionate winemakers has turned into a true popular success, attracting thousands of visitors under the superb 15th-century halls, an architectural gem in the historic center of Clisson.
The principle of the event has remained true to its original spirit: to offer the public the opportunity to discover and taste the year's vintage in the company of the winemakers who produced it. Tasting the new vintage is free, subject to the prior purchase of the traditional collectible screen-printed glass, engraved with the edition's vintage.
Each year, a new glass enriches the collection of the event's regulars, thus creating a tradition in itself. This glass, sold for 5 euros, has become a prized collector's item for enthusiasts.
The Nouvel An du Muscadet particularly highlights the communal appellations of the Nantes vineyard. The communal crus Clisson, Gorges, and Monnières-Saint-Fiacre are presented at dedicated stands, allowing visitors to discover the subtlety and richness of these exceptional wines, made from the sole Melon de Bourgogne grape variety, selected according to demanding criteria of terroir, yield, maturity, and aging.
Beyond wine tasting, the Nouvel An du Muscadet offers a true gourmet and festive experience:
Entry to the event is free, making it accessible to all. Only the purchase of the collector's glass is necessary to access the free tastings of the year's vintage. Paid tastings are also offered at other stands.
The Nouvel An du Muscadet is also marked by the presence of the Order of the Chevaliers Bretvins, a wine brotherhood of about 40 members in official attire. Their solemn parade at precisely 11 a.m. traditionally marks the opening of the event, adding a ceremonial and heritage dimension to this day of celebration.
The Nouvel An du Muscadet benefits from the support of the municipality of Clisson, the agglomeration community, and the Nantes Vineyard Tourist Office. More than 1,800 glasses are sold each edition, demonstrating the public's enthusiasm for this event, which has become a highlight of the Clisson and Nantes vineyard calendar.
The 36th edition of Nouvel An du Muscadet will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2026, under the medieval halls of Clisson. The Winemakers of the Clisson Valley will welcome the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to discover and taste the 2026 vintage in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
