Festival du Verbe
A celebration of the spoken word in Martres-Tolosane
2026
About Festival du Verbe
The Festival du Verbe is a cultural event dedicated to orality, speech, and the human voice, held every September in Martres-Tolosane, Haute-Garonne, and organized by the association Les Amis du Verbe. It showcases oral literature, song, verbal jousting, poetry, and slam: guest artists are given carte blanche to recite, sing, and interpret their own work or the works of others, alongside local performers and school choirs from the region. The festival takes place at Camping Le Moulin, on the peninsula nestled between the Garonne river and the town, and strives to bridge the gap between rural life and culture.
Festival du Verbe — edition 2026
The Festival du Verbe returns on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th, 2026, at Camping Le Moulin, located on the peninsula between the Garonne river and the town of Martres-Tolosane (Haute-Garonne). This edition, titled "Festival du Verbe vert," focuses on nature: CharlÉlie Couture, Emily Loizeau, Donia Berriri, Lonny, Nosfell, Mathieu Boogaerts, Anibal Galant, and HYL will present original works and exclusive performances dedicated to the living world, alongside two local children's choirs. Admission is €15 per day or €20 for a weekend pass.
2026 Edition: The Festival du Verbe vert
Les Amis du Verbe invite you to join them on September 19th and 20th, 2026, at Camping Le Moulin, situated on the peninsula between the Garonne river and the town of Martres-Tolosane. The theme for this year is nature: artists have curated their texts and songs around the living world, landscapes, and the stories humanity has told about them since the dawn of civilization.
Original works written for the festival
CharlÉlie Couture presents the musical project Vert-Bleu, inspired by his album of duets dedicated to environmental protection; it notably features a poem by Paul Watson set to music. Nosfell offers a new "green" creation designed specifically for the festival, sung in Klokobletz, a language he invented. Emily Loizeau, Donia Berriri, and Lonny come together for Sous la peau le monde, an original piece dedicated to nature, developed during a residency at the "Comme à la Maison" community hub run by the association.
Songs, pastorals, and hip-hop
The festival opens with Natacha Brouat, accompanied by a harpsichordist, performing pastoral works. Mathieu Boogaerts takes the stage for a poetic carte blanche featuring songs about nature. Singer-accordionist Anibal Galant revisits classic French songs and his own nature-inspired repertoire to soundtrack the Saturday evening twilight, while young hip-hop artist HYL from the Southwest scene closes the festival on Sunday.
Local children on the main stage
Two children's choirs, bringing together schools from Martres-Tolosane and Le Fousseret, are participating in the festival. Students from local schools will also take part in joint interviews with the artists, featuring dialogue and staging on the main stage.
On-site
Numerous stalls will be set up at Camping Le Moulin, including organic ice cream, natural remedies, second-hand booksellers, food trucks, and social areas. Remember to bring a sweater, as the evenings can get chilly.

Festival du Verbe: A celebration of speech in Martres-Tolosane
The Festival du Verbe celebrates orality, speech, and the voice in all their forms. Organized by the Les Amis du Verbe association, it takes place every September in Martres-Tolosane, Haute-Garonne, on the peninsula between the Garonne river and the town, at Camping Le Moulin.
Orality in all its forms
The festival explores the many facets of orality: oral literature, song, verbal jousting, poetry, and slam. Guest artists are given carte blanche to speak, sing, and perform their own texts or those of others, in a series of shows where the audience is invited to engage with the performers. Each edition features a specific theme that runs through the entire program.
An association founded in 2002
Les Amis du Verbe is a civic and cultural association founded in 2002 by Dick Annegarn, powered by dozens of volunteers. The Festival du Verbe was born two years later, in 2004, with an Occitan spirit: Claude Nougaro visited to participate and scout locations in Laffite-Toupière at the end of his poetry tour, "Les Fables de ma Fontaine." Early editions featured the Fabulous Trobadors, André Minvielle, Jean-Pierre Mader, and students and teachers from the Calandretas, the Occitan schools.
Returning artists
Over the years, the festival has brought together artists such as Raphaël, Christophe, -M-, Bénabar, Mathieu Boogaerts, Claude Sicre, Oxmo Puccino, Dany Boon, Vincent Delerm, CharlÉlie Couture, Cali, Renan Luce, Sanseverino, and Clarika, all invited to engage in encounters with local artists and create original work based on the year's theme.
The Épicentre and the Verbothèque
Throughout the year, the association runs the Épicentre in Martres-Tolosane, a resource center for the art of the spoken word. Its Verbothèque provides access to a thousand works on oral literature and hosts artist residencies. Les Amis du Verbe also organizes poetry contests and verbal jousting events, and works within local schools.
