The Tarbais Bean, a Pyrenean Treasure
The Fête du Haricot Tarbais pays homage to this exceptional legume grown in the plains of Bigorre. The haricot tarbais, harvested manually from September to November, is the only French white bean to benefit from both a Label Rouge (1997) and a Protected Geographical Indication (2000). Its melting texture and thin skin make it the star ingredient of cassoulet, garbure, and many Gascon recipes.
The Confrérie du Haricot Tarbais
Created in 1992 by the Tarbes Tourist Office, the Confrérie du Haricot Tarbais works to promote and defend this emblematic product. During each edition, it organizes induction chapters, solemn and festive moments when new personalities are welcomed into the order. Friendly brotherhoods from the Southwest join the celebrations in a colorful parade.
A Gourmet Event in the Heart of Tarbes
The Fête du Haricot Tarbais is part of the Terro'Art festival, held annually in the last week of September. For two days, local artisans and producers present their creations and products, while culinary workshops and tastings allow visitors to discover the Tarbais bean in all its forms.
Fête du Haricot Tarbais — edition 2026
The Tarbais Bean Festival 2026 takes place on September 26 and 27 as part of the Terro'Art exhibition, under the Halle Marcadieu in Tarbes. A producers' market, craft demonstrations, inductions, and a parade by the Tarbais Bean Brotherhood punctuate this gourmet weekend dedicated to the Bigourdan terroir.
Tarbais Bean Festival 2026 — at the heart of Terro'Art
On September 26 and 27, 2026, the Tarbais Bean Festival once again celebrates this exceptional product from the Hautes-Pyrénées within the Terro'Art exhibition, under the Halle Marcadieu, right in the center of Tarbes. For two days, over 120 exhibitors — craftspeople and local producers from the Southwest — present their creations and regional specialties.
On the program
- Producers' market and labeled products (Tarbais bean PGI, Bigorre black pork, Gascon specialties)
- Demonstrations by craftspeople and Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (sculptors, creators, glassblowers, live painters)
- Parade and inductions of the Tarbais Bean Brotherhood, accompanied by friendly brotherhoods and vintage cars
- Folkloric entertainment and colorful dances
- Tasting workshops, chocolate and confectionery area, Nectar tea room, and gourmet corner to sample products on site
Free admission. Saturday from 10am to 6pm, Sunday from 9am to 6pm.
