About Espaces Pluriels
Espaces Pluriels — edition 2026
Espaces Pluriels kicks off its 26/27 season on September 15, 2026, at Le Foirail with Prométhée by the Ballet de l'Opéra Grand Avignon, and wraps it up on May 20, 2027, with Fugaces by Aina Alegre. In between, enjoy 24 shows—13 dance, 6 theater, and 5 circus—with 39 performances across Le Foirail, the Théâtre Saragosse, and throughout the city of Pau, including 12 family-friendly events.
26/27 Season
The season was unveiled on June 16 and 17, 2026, at Le Foirail. Subscriptions opened on June 16, and individual tickets on June 23. Espaces Pluriels is presenting 24 shows for a total of 39 performances: 13 dance, 6 theater, and 5 circus, with 12 suitable for families. 15 shows will take place at Le Foirail, 6 at the Théâtre Saragosse, and 2 in the city. 6 shows feature companies from Nouvelle-Aquitaine, including 3 co-productions hosted in residency. The venue is supporting 10 new creations and 8 co-productions, while hosting companies in residence for over 50 days throughout the year.
Opening with Le Temps d'Aimer la danse
The first two events are part of the 36th edition of the Biarritz festival Le Temps d'Aimer la danse, running from September 10 to 21, 2026. Prométhée, a ballet by Martin Harriague set to Beethoven’s music revisited by Fabien Cali, will be performed on September 15 and 16 at Le Foirail, featuring fourteen dancers from the Opéra Grand Avignon. On September 19, the season opening night is free and held outdoors at Place Récaborde: Ad Libitum by Simon Le Borgne and Ulysse Zangs, followed by From the Ground by Pau-based choreographer Brice Larrieu (aka Skorpion), ending with a dance party.
Associate Artist and Neighborhood Residency
Sylvain Huc remains an associate artist until 2028. This season, the venue is supporting his upcoming piece, Ourobouros, aimed at young audiences. He also wrote the choreography for Nos corps désirants, a show by Élise Chatauret and Thomas Pondevie scheduled for March 24, 2027. In the fall of 2026, the company Jeanne Simone will settle into the Saragosse neighborhood: solo performances in residents' homes, the Gommette project in classrooms, and the family duet À l'envers de l'endroit.
Off-site Performance
Makbeth, the masked reinterpretation of Shakespeare by Munstrum Théâtre, will be performed on January 20, 2027, at Le Parvis, the national stage in Tarbes Pyrénées, as part of a partnership between the two institutions. A special rate applies.
Around the Shows
Eleven post-show discussions are planned. Additionally, there will be two one-day workshops (theater around Ultrasensibles on October 4, dance around En même temps on November 22), five workshops and writing sessions, two parent-child workshops, public warm-up sessions, DJ sets and after-parties, a choreographic lecture, and a screening at the André Labarrère media library. The Le Méliès cinema is preparing a selection of films to echo the shows; the program was not yet published as of mid-August 2026.

Espaces Pluriels, a hub for dance in Pau
The association began as the Centre Rencontre et Recherche, linked to the Reformed Church of France, which owned the building on Avenue de Saragosse. In 1985, under the direction of Michel Vincenot, the conference hall was transformed into a performance venue named Théâtre Saragosse. The Plurielles festival, dedicated to dance, was launched in 1993. The City of Pau purchased the building in 2008. Since 2003, Espaces Pluriels has been part of the Ministry of Culture's "Scène conventionnée" programme, and today holds the label of Scène conventionnée d'intérêt national Art et création – Danse. Carole Rambaud directed the organisation from October 2012 to January 2023, when she was succeeded by Christophe Chanut.
Three performance spaces
The Théâtre Saragosse, located at 17 avenue de Saragosse, has 220 seats: it is a venue for intimacy and close-up performances, as well as a production space where companies rehearse. Le Foirail, on Place du Foirail, has 580 seats and hosts large-scale productions as well as projects developed with other cultural partners. The stage also extends throughout the city: at Place Récaborde, the André Labarrère media library, Les Halles, and the La Pépinière social centre.
Dance, theatre and circus from September to May
Each season runs from September to May. The 26/27 season features 24 shows across 39 performances: 13 dance, 6 theatre, and 5 circus, including 12 family-friendly shows and 6 productions by companies from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Espaces Pluriels supports 10 new creations and 8 co-productions, and hosts companies in residence for over 50 days throughout the year. The venue maintains long-term relationships with associated artists, such as Sylvain Huc, who is in residence from 2025 to 2028.
Beyond the stage
After performances, artistic teams stay for post-show discussions. The season also includes masterclasses and workshops led by artists, public warm-up sessions, parent-child workshops, DJ sets and after-parties, as well as talks and screenings at the André Labarrère media library and a selection of films at the Le Méliès cinema, located at Le Foirail.
Cultural outreach
Espaces Pluriels works with social centres, youth clubs, integration organisations, nursing homes, the psychiatric hospital, social housing providers, youth hostels, and local medical-educational institutes (IME), as well as a long-term participatory project in the Saragosse neighbourhood. Regarding education, the venue partners with the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional Pau Béarn Pyrénées, the University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour for the Cinema-Theatre-Dance track in Humanities, and numerous schools across the Pau area and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. It is an active participant in the 100% EAC label supported by the Pau Béarn Pyrénées urban community.
