About Autumn Musical Days

Every year on the last weekend of September, the Journées musicales d'Automne bring together five baroque and classical music concerts in the Saint-Marc auditorium and the priory church of Souvigny, in the Allier department. The festival was established in 2001 by the Association Saint-Marc, which had already been organizing concerts centered around the historic François-Henri Clicquot organ in the priory church.

The program features a mix of recitals, vocal and instrumental ensembles, along with a lecture, tours of sites rarely open to the public, and social gatherings such as a baroque afternoon tea, breakfast, and post-concert receptions.

A festival born from a heritage association

The Association Saint-Marc, founded in 1901 under the law of the same name, takes its name from the former Saint-Marc church in Souvigny, where it originally housed a lapidary museum. Its initial mission focused on the monumental and artistic heritage of the town. It later dedicated itself to promoting the historic François-Henri Clicquot organ in the priory church, for which concerts had been held since the 1950s, and organized a symposium in 1983 to mark the instrument's bicentenary.

The Journées musicales d'Automne, created in 2001, continue this work with an annual weekend of concerts. Performances are filmed, with some being broadcast on radio or television, and others released as recordings under the Souvigny-Festival label.
