About Celtique en Voûtes Celtic Festival

Every autumn, the Centre d'Études des Patrimoines Culturels en Charolais-Brionnais hosts the "Celtique en Voûtes" festival. The concept has remained unchanged since its inception: the German-Irish group Black Velvet Band performs three traditional Irish music concerts within the Romanesque churches of the Charolais-Brionnais and Loire regions, held in Charlieu and Saint-Nizier-sous-Charlieu depending on the year. The event thrives on the striking contrast between the ancient Romanesque stone and the vibrant Celtic repertoire, featuring vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo, flutes, and fiddle.

Celtique en Voûtes Celtic Festival — edition 2026

For its 28th edition, the festival once again brings together the Black Velvet Band, a German trio founded in 1985 that has become a benchmark for Irish music in Germany. Vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo, flutes, bodhran, and fiddle will harmonize across three concerts, each held in a different Romanesque church in the Charolais-Brionnais region.
