The marriage of gastronomy and live performance, a unique concept in France
Created in 2003 by the City of Roanne, the Roanne Table Ouverte (RTO) festival is a unique event in France that combines gastronomy and live performance throughout the month of October. The original concept is based on opening Roanne's restaurants to artists for unique evenings: dinner shows, tasting evenings, cooking workshops, and gourmet gatherings take place in over 40 venues in the Roannais region. Labeled "Vignobles et Découvertes", the festival highlights the Côte Roannaise, its winegrowers, and the culinary know-how of a city recognized as the French capital of gastronomy. French chanson, jazz, theater, cabaret, world music, opera: the artistic program accompanies the best tables to offer complete sensory experiences.
Since 2003, the Roanne Table Ouverte festival has offered an unprecedented concept in France: opening restaurants in the Roannais region to artists to create evenings where gastronomy and live performance blend harmoniously. Every evening in October, guests can enjoy a meal prepared by Roanne chefs while attending a show — concert, play, cabaret act, or musical performance — in the intimate setting of a restaurant.
This marriage between culinary art and performing arts is what makes Roanne Table Ouverte unique and a benchmark festival in the French gastronomic and cultural landscape.
Roanne boasts an exceptional gastronomic tradition, championed by prestigious establishments such as the Maison Troisgros, a three-Michelin-star restaurant since 1968. This culture of culinary excellence permeates the entire Roannais region, from starred restaurants to neighborhood bistros, and the artisans of the Halles Diderot, a true temple of local gastronomy.
The Roanne Table Ouverte festival is part of this tradition, bringing together around a hundred dinner shows each year in over 40 establishments in the Roannais, offering a rich and varied program to suit all tastes.
Roanne Table Ouverte is labeled "Vignobles et Découvertes", a national label that distinguishes excellent wine tourism destinations. This label highlights the Côte Roannaise, an AOC vineyard since 1994, which covers 215 hectares across 13 municipalities. Winegrowers from the Côte Roannaise actively participate in the festival, offering tastings, food and wine pairings, and vineyard tours.
The "Vignobles en Scène" event, organized on the 3rd weekend of October as part of the label, features concerts in the vineyards, gourmet hikes, unique evenings, and discoveries of the Roannais wine heritage.
The Roanne Table Ouverte program evolves each year and covers a wide artistic spectrum: French chanson, jazz, world music, opera, theater, cabaret, comedy, magic, and many other disciplines. Artists perform in the warm atmosphere of the restaurants, creating a unique closeness between the audience and the performers.
Themed evenings punctuate the month of October: the launch evening at Halles Diderot brings together restaurateurs, winegrowers, and artisans for a grand inaugural tasting; the 3-star evening offers an exceptional dinner; the closing evening brings together all the festival stakeholders for a festive and convivial moment.
Beyond the dinner shows, Roanne Table Ouverte offers numerous cooking workshops led by local chefs, tasting evenings at Halles Diderot showcasing local Roannais products, and gourmet gatherings to discover the know-how of the region's producers and artisans. These moments of sharing and conviviality are at the heart of the festival's spirit.
24th edition of the Roanne Table Ouverte festival, scheduled from October 5th to 30th, 2026. Throughout October, restaurants in the Roannais region will once again host dinner shows, cooking workshops, and tasting evenings combining gastronomy and performing arts. On the 3rd weekend of October, Vignobles en Scène will highlight the Côte Roannaise as part of the "Vignobles et Découvertes" label.
