The gourmet fair celebrating the Brionnais farm turkey
Every second weekend in December, Marcigny comes alive for its famous Turkey Fair, now known as Marcigny fête la Dinde. This gastronomic event brings together around forty exhibitors centered around the Brionnais farm turkey, a noble product of the local terroir. Under a heated 750 m² marquee, producer stands, parades of gastronomic brotherhoods, festive entertainment, and culinary demonstrations by Michelin-starred chefs bring this town of character to life.
In the heart of Brionnais, in the southwest of Saône-et-Loire, the small town of character of Marcigny perpetuates a unique gastronomic tradition in Burgundy. Every second weekend in December, the Foire aux Dindes — now “Marcigny fête la Dinde” — celebrates the farm turkey, an emblematic product of Brionnais farming, with great fanfare.
While the poultry fair in Marcigny is an old institution, it was in 2012 that the event took on its current gastronomic dimension by hosting a dozen Michelin-starred chefs from Southern Burgundy. Since then, each edition has invited renowned chefs to showcase the farm turkey in culinary demonstrations that captivate an ever-growing audience. The fair has thus become a true gourmet show in honor of this noble and delicate product.
Under a heated 750 m² marquee, about forty exhibitors present their local products: farm poultry, Charolais cheeses, charcuterie, honey, Burgundy wines, and artisanal crafts. The atmosphere is festive with the colorful parade of gastronomic brotherhoods that winds through the streets of Marcigny in ceremonial costume, musical entertainment, and meetings with producers.
The program offers varied and family-friendly entertainment: the bylettes du Brionnais (traditional game) on Saturday, meetings with sled dogs on Sunday, a photo studio with Santa Claus for children, and on-site catering. The proximity of the end-of-year holidays makes it an ideal opportunity to find exceptional products to put under the tree or on the Christmas Eve table.
Marcigny is one of Burgundy's towns of character, nestled in the Loire Valley at the gateway to Brionnais. Its mill tower, medieval architecture, and picturesque streets are worth a longer visit. The Turkey Fair is part of a region rich in rural traditions, halfway between the Charolais pastures and the Beaujolais vineyards.
