Cutlery fair in the heart of the Thiers cutlery basin
Created in 2009, the Salon de la Durolle aux Couteaux is a cutlery fair held annually in October in La Monnerie-le-Montel, in the heart of the historic Thiers cutlery basin in Puy-de-Dôme. Organized by the association Les Vieilles Lames and a team of volunteers, this event brings together over 100 exhibitors - young artisan cutlers and experienced masters from all over France and abroad, collectors of antique knives, and raw material suppliers. The fair offers a friendly and authentic atmosphere, true to the spirit of the cutlery heritage of the Durolle valley.
Since 2009, the Salon de la Durolle aux Couteaux has brought together cutlery enthusiasts every autumn in La Monnerie-le-Montel, a place steeped in history. The town, located in the heart of the Thiers cutlery basin, is intimately linked to the centuries-old tradition of knife and cutting tool manufacturing in the Durolle valley.

On Sunday morning, a traditional cabbage soup is offered to exhibitors and visitors, perpetuating the spirit of sharing that defines the event. Meals are also available at the community hall, allowing for extended exchanges between artisans, collectors, and enthusiasts.
La Monnerie-le-Montel is located in the Durolle valley, a river that has provided hydraulic power to forges and cutlery workshops for centuries. The Thiers basin is the leading cutlery center in France, heir to centuries-old know-how that has shaped the identity of an entire region. The fair is part of this tradition by highlighting the vitality and renewal of French artisanal cutlery.
