Medieval animations at the most beautiful fortified castle in Franche-Comté
Every summer, the Oricourt fortified castle, the best-preserved in Franche-Comté, opens its doors wide for Château en Fête. This event immerses young and old in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with a medieval market, archery and crossbow demonstrations, music and dance shows, a tavern, and workshops for children. A journey back in time in the heart of a 12th-century fortress classified as a Historic Monument.
Nestled on the edge of a plateau overlooking the Lure plain, the Oricourt fortified castle is an exceptional medieval fortress. Built around the mid-12th century, it is the best-preserved fortified castle in Franche-Comté, with its double rampart, two square towers reaching 25 meters high, and its impressive fortified lower courtyard. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1984, this gem of the Haut-Saône heritage hosts Château en Fête every summer, an event that revives the medieval era in an authentic and grand setting.
Château en Fête transforms the Oricourt fortress into a true medieval village for a day. A medieval market is set up in the lower courtyard, where artisans and merchants offer their historically inspired creations. Visitors can attend archery and crossbow demonstrations, observe the work of ancient craftsmen, and discover medieval combat techniques.
Troupes of musicians and dancers liven up the seigneurial courtyard with shows evoking the medieval feasts of yesteryear. Visitors are invited to participate in dances, listen to storytellers, and fully immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere. A medieval tavern offers drinks and food inspired by medieval cuisine.
The youngest visitors are not forgotten: workshops specially designed for children allow them to learn about heraldry, calligraphy, or even how to wield a foam sword. Château en Fête is a special time to discover medieval heritage in a fun and participatory way, in one of the most remarkable sites in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
The Oricourt castle offers its visitors an exceptional panorama over the Lure plain and the first foothills of the Vosges mountains. Its large vaulted kitchen, its former stables converted into exhibition rooms, and its inner courtyards provide an ideal setting for this celebration of medieval heritage. The guided tour of the castle, lasting 1.5 hours, helps visitors understand the defensive architecture and daily life in the Middle Ages.
The 2026 edition of Château en Fête is being prepared at the Oricourt castle with its usual program of medieval animations: market, shows, ancient weapon demonstrations, tavern, and workshops for children.
Château en Fête returns to the Oricourt fortified castle in the summer of 2026 for another day of medieval festivities. On the program: artisan market, archery and crossbow demonstrations, music and dance shows, medieval tavern, and children's workshops. The detailed program will be announced on the castle's official website.
