Free rock concerts on the Valensole plateau
Chute de Rock is a small, free rock festival organized every summer in Saint-Jurs, a village perched at 900 meters altitude on the Valensole plateau, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Created in 2004 by the eponymous association, heir to the work of the association Les Pique Gréuto, the festival brings together a friendly crowd every first weekend of August for open-air concerts at the foot of the village. True to a festive and accessible spirit, Chute de Rock offers an eclectic program mixing rock, world music, and batucada, in an exceptional natural setting with breathtaking views of the lavender fields and the mountains of Haute-Provence. Admission is free and refreshments are available.
Since 2004, the Chute de Rock festival has enlivened the small village of Saint-Jurs every summer, perched at 900 meters altitude on the Valensole plateau, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Born from the desire of the Chute de Rock association to continue the work initiated by the association Les Pique Gréuto, the festival has established itself as an unmissable summer event for the inhabitants of the plateau and passing visitors.
The festival's philosophy is based on a simple and generous principle: to offer free concerts in a breathtaking natural setting. The concerts take place outdoors, at the foot of the village, with the lavender fields of the Valensole plateau and the peaks of the Alpes de Haute-Provence as a backdrop. The site offers natural acoustics and a warm atmosphere, far from impersonal large festivals. A refreshment stand and light catering accompany the festivities, reinforcing the event's conviviality.
Each edition of Chute de Rock offers a varied program where rock mingles with world music, batucada rhythms, and festive sounds. The festival has notably hosted Batukapeó, a batucada group from Valensole that traditionally opens the festivities during aperitif time, before giving way to rock and contemporary music groups from the regional scene and beyond. The programming favors discovery and eclecticism, with bands ranging from independent rock to punk and world music.
The festival is organized by the Chute de Rock association (RNA W043000244), based at the old school in Saint-Jurs. This non-profit structure, driven by passionate volunteers from the village and surrounding areas, perpetuates the community spirit inherited from the Les Pique Gréuto association, founded a few years earlier. The involvement of the inhabitants in the organization—setup, refreshments, welcome—makes Chute de Rock much more than just a concert: a true moment of collective life and sharing in a rural setting.
Saint-Jurs is a charming village nestled between the Valensole plateau and the Gorges du Verdon, 7 km from Puimoisson and 15 km from Riez. Its preserved environment, picturesque streets, and panoramic views of the lavender fields make it an exceptional location for an outdoor festival. On the first weekend of August, the village comes alive to the rhythm of rock, welcoming festival-goers, families, and curious visitors to enjoy a musical evening under the Provençal stars.
