The Spring Funfair Event of Alsace
The Colmar Spring Fair is a highly anticipated popular event that marks the return of the good season each year in the capital of Alsatian wine. Located on the vast Scheurer-Kestner square, right in the heart of the city, this large-scale funfair brings together dozens of attractions for all ages for over two weeks. Co-organized by professional showmen and the City of Colmar, it is one of the very first funfair events of the year in the Grand Est region, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the Haut-Rhin and beyond.
Attractions for All Tastes
The Spring Fair offers a complete range of funfair attractions, from the gentlest to the most dizzying. Lovers of thrills will be delighted to find the star rides: the Maxximum pendulum, the Booster, the Top Spin, and the Break Dance, which compete with spectacular aerial maneuvers. For families, the bumper cars, the haunted house, the mechanical octopus, the hall of mirrors, and the secure trampolines guarantee moments of pure entertainment. The youngest will marvel at the majestic wooden horse carousel, the mini-flying chairs, and the little train that travels around the fair.
Sweets and Funfair Traditions
No self-respecting funfair would be complete without its sweet delights. The stalls at the Spring Fair offer all the traditional treats that delight young and old alike: golden waffles, cotton candy, caramelized love apples, crispy churros, crêpes, and colorful confectionery. Classic games of skill—shooting galleries, duck fishing, ring toss—perpetuate the funfair tradition and allow visitors to win a prize. The smell of nougat and pralines mingles with the flashing lights and the music of the rides to create that magical atmosphere unique to funfairs.
An Event Rooted in Colmar Life
The Spring Fair is part of a long funfair tradition in Colmar, a city that also hosts a summer fair and the famous Alsace Wine Fair. Its location in the heart of the city, on Scheurer-Kestner square lined with shops and restaurants, makes it an event perfectly integrated into the urban fabric. Discount days, offered on Wednesdays, allow families to enjoy the rides at a lower cost. The fair opens its doors every day in the early afternoon and continues into the evening, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday evenings, offering a sparkling nocturnal atmosphere particularly appreciated by teenagers and young adults.
Colmar in Spring, a City Celebrating
The Spring Fair is part of the broader Colmar Celebrates Spring program, which also includes the traditional Easter market in the old town, with its artisan chalets and Easter decorations. Visiting Colmar at this time means discovering a city in full swing, between the picturesque streets of Little Venice, the flowery half-timbered houses, and the joyful animation of the funfair. A special time to enjoy Alsatian charm in the gentle spring air.
