A tradition of fairs rooted in the history of Nantiat

The town of Nantiat, located in the canton of Bellac in northern Haute-Vienne, has a long tradition of fairs and markets. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, municipal records mention fairs on the 4th of each month as well as an important fair on November 24th, dates that marked the commercial and agricultural rhythm of this rural commune in the Limousin region. These livestock fairs were the beating heart of the local economy, attracting Limousin cattle breeders, horse dealers, and farmers from the surrounding area.

The Christmas Market: between tradition and conviviality

Organized each year in December by the association Nantiat Animation, the Christmas Fair has evolved while retaining the spirit of the old fairs. The event takes place in front of the town hall and in the village hall of Nantiat, bringing together about twenty exhibitors offering Christmas trees, artisanal decorations, handmade jewelry, scented candles, macramé, incense, and a wide variety of local Limousin products: foie gras, honey, chocolates, sausages, roasted coffee, and meal platters to take away or enjoy on site.

A family and solidarity event

The Nantiat Christmas Fair is distinguished by its family and solidarity dimension. Children can meet Santa Claus and capture the moment with a souvenir photo, while the sale of treats and hot drinks is organized for the benefit of the Téléthon. Volunteers from Nantiat Animation ensure a warm welcome for visitors and animate this festive day, which marks the beginning of the year-end festivities in the town. The friendly atmosphere and mutual aid among residents make this event a highlight of community life.

Nantiat, a small, lively village in the Limousin

A commune of about 1,600 inhabitants nestled at an altitude of 340 meters in the Massif Central, Nantiat is part of the Élan Limousin Avenir Nature inter-municipal community. The town maintains a dynamic network of associations, with a weekly market on Fridays in front of the church and a monthly fair on the 24th of each month. The Autumn Festivals, the artisanal and commercial fair in October, and the Christmas Fair mark the seasons and testify to the vitality of this rural commune where agricultural and artisanal traditions remain strong.
