Large second-hand book fair for solidarity
The Charleville-Mézières Book Fair is a major charity event organized every October by the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul of the Ardennes at the Salle Nevers. For three days, thousands of carefully sorted second-hand books are offered at low prices: novels, comics, children's books, school books, encyclopedias, and regional documents. This event represents 85% of the association's budget, entirely donated to aid people in great precariousness in the Ardennes department. Admission is free and open to all book lovers.
For over twenty years, the Charleville-Mézières Book Fair has brought together autumn book enthusiasts at the Salle Nevers, in the heart of the city. Organized by the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul des Ardennes, this large literary flea market has become a must-attend event on the Ardennes cultural calendar. In 2025, the fair celebrates its 20th edition, confirming its place in the local associative and cultural landscape.
The Book Fair offers a considerable selection of second-hand books, collected throughout the year by the association's volunteers. Visitors can find novels, comics, children's books, school and university books, encyclopedias, art books, documents on the regional history of the Ardennes, and many other literary treasures. All books are sold at very affordable prices, generally between €0.50 and €3, making it a paradise for bibliophiles on a modest budget.
Beyond the cultural event, the Book Fair is the main source of funding for the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul of the Ardennes. The proceeds represent about 85% of the association's annual budget, which helps people in great precariousness in the department: food distribution, housing assistance, social support, and material aid. Every book purchased directly contributes to this mission of solidarity.
The fair takes place over three days, from Friday to Sunday, with generous opening hours allowing everyone to browse the bins and shelves. Friday afternoon is traditionally reserved for the opening, while Saturday and Sunday offer a full day of discoveries. Admission is free and the friendly atmosphere invites leisurely browsing and exchanges between readers. The association's volunteers are present to advise and guide visitors in their search.
The Salle Nevers, located at Place Nevers in Charleville-Mézières, offers a spacious and accessible setting to host this event. The hall, easily accessible from the city center and the famous Place Ducale, allows books to be arranged by theme and genre, facilitating visitors' searches.
The 21st edition of the Charleville-Mézières Book Fair is scheduled for late October 2026 at the Salle Nevers. The Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul des Ardennes will again offer thousands of second-hand books at solidarity prices, for the benefit of its solidarity actions. Free admission.
