The big commercial and festive meeting of the back-to-school season in Alsace
Every September, the European Fair transforms the Wacken Exhibition Centre into a huge village of discoveries where over 900 exhibitors from all over Europe meet a guest of honor country. For ten days, Strasbourg buzzes with gastronomic tastings, home innovations, live shows, and a grand funfair. Since 1932, this unmissable event has attracted nearly 150,000 visitors and embodies the spirit of cross-border conviviality dear to the Alsatian capital.
Born in 1932 under the name "Foire d'Automne" (Autumn Fair), the Strasbourg European Fair is the heir to a commercial tradition initiated as early as 1925 to revitalize the Alsatian economy after the First World War. Located at the Wacken Exhibition Centre, it has gradually established itself as the largest exhibition fair in Eastern France. It was in the 1950s, in a context of Franco-German reconciliation, that it truly took off internationally by inviting a guest of honor country each year to present itself on over 1,000 m² of immersive scenography.
The European Fair is, above all, a gigantic multidisciplinary show that covers all aspects of daily life. Home and decoration, cuisine and gastronomy, well-being, garden, new technologies, artistic crafts: the approximately 900 exhibitors offer an eclectic showcase where everyone can find something they like. The "Made in Alsace" space highlights local know-how, while the Gastronomic Village invites you on a world tour of flavors without leaving the park.
Each edition honors a guest country through spectacular scenography. Ireland in 2025, with its 1,200 m² of decorations celebrating Celtic legends, crafts, and gastronomy, perfectly illustrates this tradition that has showcased India, Japan, Morocco, and Brazil over the decades. An invitation to travel that delights young and old alike.
Beyond the exhibition, the European Fair is a true festive event. Live concerts with renowned artists, the Ultimate Ninja Challenge course for aspiring athletes, culinary demonstrations by Michelin-starred chefs, creative workshops for children: the program combines popular entertainment and enriching discoveries. Saturday evenings, extended until 10 p.m., take on a festival atmosphere with outdoor bars and musical ambiance.
The European Fair embodies Strasbourg's cross-border and European identity. Located a stone's throw from the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, it attracts an audience from Germany, Switzerland, and the Benelux countries, as well as loyal visitors from Alsace generation after generation. It is the back-to-school event that all of Alsace awaits, a moment of sharing and conviviality that makes the European capital vibrate every autumn.
