Festival of scientific culture between astronomy and environment
The Festi'Val d'Azun "from the Earth to the Stars" is a scientific culture festival held every mid-August in the Val d'Azun, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Created in 2017 on the initiative of astrophysicist Sylvie Vauclair, this festival offers accessible conferences on astronomy, astrophysics, environment, and climate, accompanied by exhibitions, activities, guided tours, and concerts. Located in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park and near the Pic du Midi International Starry Sky Reserve, the festival offers an exceptional setting to observe the sky and understand our place in the universe.
Born in 2017 from the initiative of astrophysicist Sylvie Vauclair, the Festi'Val d'Azun "from the Earth to the Stars" is a unique annual event. This scientific culture festival offers conferences, exhibitions, activities, and guided tours accessible to all audiences around two main themes: astronomy and astrophysics on one hand, and environment and climate on the other.
The Val d'Azun, located in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, offers a preserved natural setting ideal for observing the night sky. The proximity of the Pic du Midi International Starry Sky Reserve guarantees exceptional observation conditions, far from any light pollution. The astronomical observation evenings allow participants to contemplate stars, planets, and galaxies with the naked eye or through provided instruments.
Each year, the festival invites renowned scientists for popularization conferences accessible to the general public. Astrophysicists, climatologists, geologists, and biologists share their knowledge and research in a friendly and interactive format. The exchanges between scientists and the public enrich these encounters.
Organized by the association Festi'Val d'Azun from the Earth to the Stars, the festival benefits from the support of the town halls of Gaillagos and Arcizans-Dessus, the Community of Communes Pyrénées Vallées des Gaves, the Occitanie Region, the Department of Hautes-Pyrénées, the Pyrenees National Park, and the Midi-Pyrénées Observatory. Admission is free, reflecting the desire to make science accessible to all.
