Literary fair dedicated to the mountains in Font-Romeu
The Festival Altitudes is a mountain book fair created in 2008 in Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via, a mountain resort in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Born from the municipal desire to associate books with a resort known nationally and internationally for its tourist and sporting vocation, the festival offers a three-day book fair, conferences, round tables, exhibitions, screenings, children's activities, meetings with authors, and writing workshops. Invited writers address the mountain as a theme of inspiration and present their latest literary works.
Created in 2008, Festival Altitudes is a mountain book fair held every summer in Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via, a Cerdagne resort perched at 1,800 meters altitude in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Born from the municipality's desire to associate books with a resort recognized nationally and internationally for its tourist and sporting appeal, Altitudes has become a major cultural event for mountain and literature lovers.
For three days, the festival hosts authors, publishers, and players in the book world gathered around the theme of mountains. Invited writers draw inspiration from the mountains: adventure stories, mountaineer testimonies, regional novels, comic strips, natural history books, hiking guides, and essays on the future of mountain territories. Each edition explores a specific theme, questioning, for example, mountain tourism, the identity markers of the Catalan Pyrenees, or alternative tourism.
The Festival Altitudes program includes a book fair with stands from publishers and booksellers, conferences and round tables on mountain-related topics, photographic and artistic exhibitions, film screenings, children's activities, writing workshops, and meetings with authors. These moments of sharing and discovery make Altitudes a lively literary festival accessible to all audiences.
Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via, known for its exceptional sunshine, high-level sports facilities, and solar furnace, offers an ideal setting for a literary festival dedicated to the mountains. The Esplanade des Comtes de Cerdagne, in the heart of the resort, hosts the fair against a backdrop of Pyrenean peaks.
