International classical music festival in Cerdagne
The Festival de Saillagouse, officially "Saillagouse en Concert", is an international classical music festival held every summer in the Sainte-Eugénie church and the François Ester multi-purpose hall in Saillagouse, in the heart of French Cerdagne. Created by the association Cerdagne en Concert, the festival has been offering an excellent program for over a decade, combining recitals, chamber music, and opera, with works by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff. International artists perform in the intimate setting of this Pyrenean village at an altitude of 1,300 m.
Since its creation, the Saillagouse en Concert festival has established itself as a major event for classical music in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Set in the majestic surroundings of Cerdagne, a high-altitude plateau surrounded by the Pyrenean peaks, the festival offers a unique musical experience, where the exceptional acoustics of the Romanesque church of Sainte-Eugénie meet the beauty of the mountain landscapes.
Each edition features about ten concerts spread over three weeks in August, combining piano recitals, chamber music, symphonic concerts, and opera. The greatest composers are on the program: Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Grieg, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff. The festival has notably presented operas such as Verdi's La Traviata and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.
The festival hosts internationally renowned musicians, with particular attention paid to artists from Eastern Europe. Ukrainian violinist Ala Voronkova and conductor Guerassim Voronkov are among the emblematic artists of the festival.
Beyond the concerts, the festival offers origami workshops with master Joan Sallas, meetings with artists, and dinner-concerts in partnership with the Hôtel Restaurant Chez Planes. A complete cultural experience in the heart of the Catalan mountains.
The 15th edition of Saillagouse en Concert will be held in August 2026 at the Sainte-Eugénie church in Saillagouse. Program to be announced.
