In the footsteps of Gabriel Fauré
Since 1995, the town of Pamiers has paid tribute to its most illustrious son, the composer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), through a classical and chamber music festival of great artistic excellence. Initially titled “Musiques au Pays de Gabriel Fauré”, the festival became Gabriel Forever in 2022 when it came under municipal management, while retaining the spirit and ambition that have made its reputation: celebrating Fauré's music and engaging it in dialogue with the works of his contemporaries, his masters, and his students.
Exceptional concerts in heritage venues
The festival unfolds over two series of concerts spread between May-June and September-October, with approximately 7 concerts per edition. The performances take place in the heritage sites of Pamiers: the Salle du Jeu du Mail, the cloister of the Carmel, and other remarkable sites in the city. This choice of intimate and historic venues creates a unique proximity between the artists and the audience, enhancing the interpretation of chamber music works.
Renowned international artists
Each edition features internationally renowned pianists, violinists, cellists, and chamber ensembles. The Trio Wanderer, Bruno Mantovani, and many leading soloists have performed on the festival stage over the years. The programming highlights the different facets of Fauré's work—his sonatas, quartets, mélodies, and piano pieces—while placing them in perspective with the compositions of Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Debussy, and Ravel.
A festival rooted in the musical heritage of Ariège
Gabriel Fauré was born in Pamiers on May 12, 1845, and spent his early years in Ariège before joining the École Niedermeyer in Paris. The Gabriel Forever festival perpetuates the link between the composer and his native land, contributing to the enhancement of Ariège's musical heritage. Supported by the City of Pamiers, the Departmental Council of Ariège, and the Occitanie Region, the festival attracts a loyal audience of music lovers and contributes to the cultural influence of the city.
