Metal comes to Ariège

Metal Fest 09 is the result of the passion of a group of friends united within the association Back In Black — a nod to the famous AC/DC album. Founded in 2023, this festival of metal and extreme music chose Saverdun, a small town in northern Ariège, to establish an event that was sorely missing in the department. The Salle polyvalente de la Laure hosts two evenings of powerful concerts every November, bringing together metal, death metal, thrash, heavy metal, and hard rock bands.

Two days of intense concerts

Each edition of Metal Fest 09 features about ten bands spread over two evenings. The first edition in 2023 laid the groundwork with eight bands over two days (November 10 and 11). The 2nd edition in 2024 (November 9 and 10) reached a new level with ten bands including Mundilfari, Sanctuary, Killus, Ecclesia, and Nihilism. The 3rd edition in 2025 (November 21 and 22) confirmed the growing momentum with Persefone, The Troops Of Doom, Ask Your Mom, Blind Wisdom, Chaotic Circus, Drakkar, Rankken, Sujin, and Th3ory.

The Back In Black spirit: metal, mechanics, and tattoo

Beyond the music, Metal Fest 09 cultivates an authentic rock'n'roll universe. The Back In Black association, composed of enthusiasts of mechanics, unusual vehicles, motorcycles, tattooing, and rock music, has infused the festival with a strong identity. Tattoo artists and piercers are present on site, merchandising stands for the bands and the association complete the offerings, and a cloakroom is available for festival-goers. The sincere and friendly atmosphere, far from festival factories, is the pride of the event.

A growing festival

In just three editions, Metal Fest 09 has established itself as the metal event of Ariège. Prices remain affordable — between 13 and 30 euros depending on the pass — and the Back In Black association works each year to enrich its programming while maintaining the family-friendly and passionate spirit that defines the festival.
