The largest funfair in the South of France since 1759
Created in 1759, the Foire Saint-Martin in Perpignan is one of the oldest and largest funfairs in the South of France. Every autumn, from late October to late November, the Palais des Expositions car park hosts over 120 to 150 rides and fairground attractions over several hectares, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors for four weeks of popular festivities.
The Foire Saint-Martin in Perpignan was born in 1759, exactly one century after the Treaty of the Pyrenees which attached Roussillon to France. Originally, this fair was intended to promote the export of Roussillon's production to Languedoc. For three days around November 11th, Saint Martin's Day, all transactions concluded were tax-exempt.
Over the centuries, the Foire Saint-Martin has transformed from a commercial market into a grand popular festival. In the 19th century, it expanded to include horse dealers, acrobats, and circuses. In 1878, the fair was moved to the tree-lined promenade (the "mail"). In 1892, the first steam carousel appeared, followed by electric lighting in 1896.
In 1977, the fair found refuge on the road to Bompas, on the left bank of the Têt. Today, located in the car park of the Palais des Expositions, it covers several hectares and hosts over 120 to 150 stalls and fairground attractions.
The Foire Saint-Martin offers a range of attractions from gentle rides for toddlers to thrilling experiences for adrenaline junkies. Among recent additions: the roller coaster "The Mouse", the "Ranger" boat ride, the "Benny Hill 5" family ride, and the "Star Wars" ride. The Ferris wheel and the "Queen of the Fair" remain must-sees.
Beyond the rides, the Foire Saint-Martin punctuates its four weeks with special entertainment: Disney and Paw Patrol parades, Transformers shows, Brazilian percussion performances, and fireworks.
The Foire Saint-Martin 2026 will take over the car park of the Palais des Expositions in Perpignan from late October to late November for four weeks of funfair with over 150 attractions.
