The ninth art event on the Norman seafront
Since 2000, the Dieppe BD Festival has brought together comic book lovers every summer on the Colonel-Dollard-Ménard esplanade, facing the Aguado hotel and the English Channel. Organized by the Association Normande de Bande Dessinée (ANBD), chaired by Dieppe enthusiast Jean-Pierre Surest, this event hosts around fifty authors each year for signing sessions, exhibitions, conferences, and meetings with publishers. Free and open to all, the festival contributes to promoting young authors while showcasing Dieppe and its region.
Since its creation in 2000 by the Normandy Comic Strip Association (ANBD), the Dieppe BD Festival has established itself as an unmissable summer event for comic strip enthusiasts in Normandy. Every July, the Dieppe seafront transforms into a true ninth art village, where established authors and emerging talents mingle in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The festival unfolds on the Colonel-Dollard-Ménard esplanade, facing the Aguado hotel, in a unique setting between the sea and cliffs. The signing booths, exhibitions, and meeting areas are set up outdoors, offering visitors a moment of culture and relaxation in an exceptional maritime setting. Its proximity to the beach and the historic town center of Dieppe makes it a particularly pleasant event for families.
True to its mission of promoting comic strips and young authors, the festival hosts around fifty creators from all over France and beyond each year. Prestigious authors have made the trip since the first edition, contributing to the growing reputation of the event. Signing sessions allow readers to meet their favorite authors, chat with them, and leave with original, personalized drawings.
The festival offers much more than just signings: themed exhibitions, conferences on the art of comic strips, drawing workshops for children, stands from independent publishers, and specialized bookstores. Authors also participate in informal exchanges that contribute to the charm of this human-scale event, far from the hustle and bustle of the major Parisian shows.
The Normandy Comic Strip Association (ANBD) is not limited to the summer festival. Throughout the year, it organizes activities, exhibitions, and interventions in schools and media libraries to introduce the ninth art to as many people as possible. The Dieppe festival is the showcase for this in-depth work, a special moment where the passion for comic strips is shared on the Norman seafront.
The 26th edition of the Dieppe BD Festival is scheduled for July 18 and 19, 2026, on the Dieppe seafront. The program and list of authors will be unveiled in spring 2026.
