Ciné-concert festival in Grenoble and its surrounding area
Created in 2010 by the association Stara Zagora, Le Tympan dans l'Oeil is one of the few festivals in France entirely dedicated to cine-concerts and the link between image and live music. Every year in November-December, the festival takes over about ten venues in Grenoble and its surrounding area to offer cine-concerts, illustrated concerts, docu-concerts, audiovisual performances, original creations, and workshops. Accessible to all audiences from 3 years old, it stands out for its rich and family-friendly programming.
Since 2010, the Le Tympan dans l'Oeil festival has established itself as one of the few events in France entirely dedicated to cine-concerts and music for image. Founded in Grenoble by Damien Litzler, a percussionist and cine-concert specialist, this festival passionately explores the close link between image and live music, in an approach that helps modernize the genre's codes.
A cine-concert is a film screening accompanied by a soundtrack performed live by one or more musicians. But Le Tympan dans l'Oeil goes far beyond this classic definition. The festival presents a remarkable diversity of artistic forms: cine-concerts of silent or contemporary films, illustrated concerts, docu-concerts, mini object cine-concerts, audiovisual performances, cine-shows, and transdisciplinary creations blending music, literature, and theater.
Each edition features about ten carefully selected shows, representing the best of current creation in music for image. The festival also supports artists in the creation of original and new works, with approximately two productions per year, making each edition a rendezvous for discoveries and premieres.
One of the great strengths of Le Tympan dans l'Oeil lies in its commitment to young audiences and families. With offerings accessible from 3 years old, the festival develops an extensive young audience program, complemented by numerous school screenings, creative workshops, and masterclasses. Post-performance discussions with artists demystify artistic practice and can spark vocations.
The festival is driven by the Stara Zagora association, founded in 2005 in Grenoble. Co-founded by brothers Damien and Franck Litzler, the association has become a benchmark structure for cine-concerts in France. With over 800 performances since 2008 through the SZ Company's projects, it focuses on four main areas: festival programming, show distribution, artistic project support, and training through a very active educational department.
For nearly three weeks between November and December, Le Tympan dans l'Oeil takes over about ten partner venues in Grenoble and its surrounding area: l'Hexagone in Meylan, Espace 600, cinema Juliet Berto, La Bobine, La Faïencerie in La Tronche, Espace Paul Jargot in Crolles, La Vence Scène, L'Amphi, Le Ciel, La Source, and many others. This multi-site presence promotes cultural reach across the territory and encounters between audiences.
The 16th edition of the Le Tympan dans l'Oeil festival will take place in November-December 2026 in Grenoble and its surrounding area. The festival will offer a new selection of cine-concerts, illustrated concerts, audiovisual performances, original creations, and workshops for all audiences.
