The cafés-cultures festival in the heart of the Causse du Quercy
The Culture Bar-Bars Festival in Livernon is the Lot edition of the national itinerant festival organized by the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars. Every year, on the last weekend of November, the Cabaret Clan Destin, nestled in the Mas de la Biscle on the Causse du Quercy, opens its doors to celebrate the cultural richness of concert cafés, bistros, and alternative venues. Concerts, shows, exhibitions, and artistic encounters follow one another in this associative cabaret founded by Yves Balbin, where underground music rubs shoulders with offbeat humor and the guinguette atmosphere of the Causse stones.
The Culture Bar-Bars Festival is a national itinerant event created in 2003 by the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars, a national federation bringing together over 500 concert cafés, clubs, cafés-cultures, and bistros across France. Every year, on the last weekend of November, these cultural hubs simultaneously open their doors to celebrate the artistic diversity and conviviality that characterize them. The second national cultural event after Fête de la Musique, the festival brings together over 160,000 festival-goers in nearly 70 cities and 230 venues.
In Livernon, the festival takes place at the Cabaret Clan Destin, a unique venue located at Mas de la Biscle, away from the village center, at the end of a small path lined with old stone buildings of the Causse. This associative cabaret, founded by bassist Yves Balbin after years of touring across Europe, is inspired by the cultural squats he frequented in Germany, Italy, and Spain. A private venue reserved for members of the association Musicausse & Campagn'art, Le Clan Destin deliberately cultivates a certain clandestinity: no sign marks it, and the program is circulated only by email and social media.
The Livernon edition of the Culture Bar-Bars Festival reflects the spirit of Le Clan Destin: an underground and eclectic program where contemporary music, independent rock, French chanson, folk, world music, and unclassifiable shows meet. Artists perform in the warm intimacy of the cabaret, creating a rare closeness between musicians and the audience. Evenings generally start at 9:30 PM and continue late into the night, in an atmosphere blending rural conviviality and artistic effervescence.
Livernon's participation in the Culture Bar-Bars Festival illustrates the cultural vitality of rural areas in the Lot. Le Clan Destin, a true underground of the Causse, demonstrates that it is possible to foster artistic creation far from major cities. By hosting the festival, this small village of 600 inhabitants in the Causse de Gramat asserts its place in the national network of alternative cultural venues, proving that bistros, cafés, and associative cabarets are essential links in the musical chain and open windows to the world.
True to the spirit of the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars, the Livernon edition is free (excluding membership to the association). The atmosphere is resolutely festive and participatory, driven by passionate volunteers and an insider audience from all over the department. The festival is an opportunity to discover emerging artists and bold artistic proposals in an authentic and preserved setting, far from the usual commercial circuits.
The festival takes place at the Cabaret Clan Destin, Mas de la Biscle, 46320 Livernon, in the Lot department in Occitanie.
