A festival dedicated to the king of alpine cheeses

The Beaufort Festival is one of the highlights of the summer in Beaufortain. Every August 15th, Assumption Day, the resort of Les Saisies hosts this major popular festival celebrating Beaufort AOP, the emblematic cheese of the Savoie Alps, and the pastoral culture surrounding it. From 10 am to 7 pm, the Avenue des Jeux Olympiques transforms into a vast festive space where traditions, gastronomy, and mountain conviviality meet.

Beaufort making live

The highlight of the day is the live Beaufort making demonstration, starting at 11 am. In front of a captivated audience, a cheesemaker reproduces the ancestral gestures of transforming milk into cheese, from curdling to extracting the wheel. This educational demonstration allows visitors to understand the centuries-old know-how that makes Beaufort famous, produced exclusively with milk from Tarine and Abondance cows raised in alpine pastures.

Herd parades and Savoyard folklore

The festival takes on a spectacular dimension with the parade of herds of Tarine and Abondance cows through the resort streets, accompanied by their breeders in traditional costume. Folk groups entertain the day with traditional Savoyard dances and songs, while a market of local producers and artisans allows visitors to discover the riches of the Beaufortain terroir.

Gastronomy and conviviality

The Beaufort Festival is also a great moment for Savoyard gastronomy. A huge giant tartiflette is served to hundreds of guests around noon. Visitors can taste Beaufort in all its forms and at different stages of aging, accompanied by other local specialties. The warm and festive atmosphere attracts thousands of visitors each year, both locals and holidaymakers.
