Free youth book fair at the Espace culturel Jean Ferrat in Ruelle-sur-Touvre
The Ruelle-sur-Touvre Youth Book Festival is a book fair dedicated to youth literature, organized every year in March since 1999 by the City of Ruelle-sur-Touvre and the FCOL (Fédération Charentaise des Œuvres Laïques / Ligue de l'Enseignement de la Charente). Entirely free and open to all, the festival offers themed days, shows, meetings with authors and illustrators, exhibitions, signings, book sales, and awards for middle school students at the Espace culturel Jean Ferrat.
The Ruelle-sur-Touvre Youth Book Festival is one of the major literary events in Charente, dedicated to literature for young people. Created in 1999 through a partnership between the City of Ruelle-sur-Touvre and the FCOL (Fédération Charentaise des Œuvres Laïques, departmental branch of the Ligue de l'Enseignement), this festival is held every year in March at the Espace culturel Jean Ferrat, Place du Champ de Mars.
The festival offers a varied program over three days: themed days (such as diversity in youth literature), live performances, meetings with authors and illustrators, exhibitions, creative workshops, signing sessions, and book sales. The festival also hosts the award ceremony for middle school students' literary prizes, involving Charente schools in the promotion of reading. All activities are completely free, in line with the Ligue de l'Enseignement's mission to make culture accessible to all.
Each edition invites about ten authors and illustrators of youth literature, offering the public the opportunity to meet the creators of the books they love. The meetings take place in a friendly atmosphere, conducive to exchanges between artists and their readers, young and old. The scheduled shows are linked to the theme of the year, offering a lively and interactive dimension to the event.
The Espace culturel Jean Ferrat, located Place du Champ de Mars in Ruelle-sur-Touvre, is the central venue of the festival. This performance and exhibition hall, equipped to host large-scale cultural events, offers an ideal setting for the festival's meetings, exhibitions, and shows. Ruelle-sur-Touvre, a town in the Angoulême agglomeration, is easily accessible from the city center.
