Festival des Cagouilles

2025 Edition — The gourmet event of the Poitou summer

The 2025 edition of the Festival des Cagouilles was held on Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th in the center of Saint-Julien-l'Ars, under generous sunshine. The tasting stands offered the essential "cagouilles à la charentaise" — stuffed with sausage meat and simmered in their tomato sauce — as well as "cagouilles au beurre persillé", grilled over embers, and in a garden herb fricassee.

The producers' market brought together about thirty exhibitors from all over the Vienne region: cheesemakers, winemakers from Haut-Poitou, beekeepers, market gardeners, and artisanal charcuterie makers presented the best of the local terroir. The culinary demonstrations allowed visitors to unlock the secrets of preparing cagouilles, from fifteen days of fasting to slow cooking, including meticulous washing with coarse salt and white vinegar.

The music stage hosted variety bands and traditional Poitevin music groups, transforming the village square into an open-air dance floor. The youngest attendees enjoyed traditional games, snail races, and creative workshops. A successful edition that confirmed the Festival des Cagouilles as an unmissable summer event in the Vienne.
