Festival of Animation and Image in Mauriac
The Histoires d'Images Festival is a cultural event dedicated to animation and image, organized every autumn at the Médiathèque du Pays de Mauriac in Cantal. For several days, the festival offers animation film screenings, creative workshops for all ages, conferences, and exhibitions around an annual theme. In partnership with the association Plein la Bobine, it invites young and old to discover the techniques of pre-cinema, stop-motion, and light-painting.
Every autumn, the Médiathèque du Pays de Mauriac opens its doors wide to host the Festival Histoires d'Images, a unique event in Cantal entirely dedicated to animation and image. Since its creation, this human-sized festival has established itself as an unmissable event for image lovers, whether fixed or animated, traditional or digital.
The originality of the festival lies in the choice of a different theme for each edition, which serves as a common thread for the entire program. Thus, the 7th edition in 2018 had the theme "Couleur Japon", a journey to the land of the rising sun exploring Japanese artistic codes, from ukiyo-e prints to contemporary manga. This thematic approach allows the public to immerse themselves in a rich and coherent universe, combining cultural discovery and artistic practice.
The festival is distinguished by the richness of its creative workshops, accessible to all audiences. In partnership with the association Plein la Bobine, a privileged partner of the festival and organizer of the Sancy Massif Young Audiences Film Festival, participants can learn pre-cinema techniques, create mini stop-motion films, or experiment with light-painting. Drawing contests are organized for children aged 4 to 16, and schools are invited to create decorations related to the year's theme.
The program also includes animation film screenings selected in connection with the annual theme, conferences led by specialists, and temporary exhibitions. The festival calls on various speakers: artists, authors, directors, and cultural mediators, who come to share their passion and know-how with the Mauriac public.
Supported by local authorities and institutional partners, the Histoires d'Images Festival contributes to the cultural influence of the Pays de Mauriac and offers privileged access to artistic creation in a rural area.
