Electronic music and digital arts in Avignon's heritage sites
Since 2009, the Festival Résonance has transformed Avignon's heritage sites into stages for electronic music and digital arts each year. Palais des Papes, Pont Saint-Bénézet, Collection Lambert, Musée Calvet: the city's iconic locations host techno, house, ambient music, and audiovisual performances in a unique encounter between medieval architecture and contemporary cultures.
Born in 2009 on the initiative of electronic culture and heritage enthusiasts, the Festival Résonance invented a unique format: setting up stages for electronic music, audiovisual performance, and digital arts in Avignon's most emblematic and historically rich sites.
The festival's founding intuition is that of a dialogue between two temporalities: the immediacy of electronic culture, born from urban nights and new technologies, and the historical depth of the places — some of the most impressive monuments of medieval France. From this encounter, something unique is born: a sensory and emotional experience that neither an ordinary club nor a traditional museum visit could provide.
Each edition of the festival takes over a selection of Avignon's heritage sites, redefining the nocturnal map of the City of Popes:
Each venue is uniquely staged, with light and audiovisual installations interacting with the architecture to create unprecedented environments, redesigned each year.
The musical program of the Festival Résonance covers a wide spectrum of contemporary electronic music, from techno and house to ambient, musique concrète, live digital art performances, and immersive experiences. The festival is committed to programming both internationally renowned artists and emerging talents, prioritizing artistic quality and thematic coherence.
Artists such as Superpoze and Busy P were featured in the 2025 edition's lineup, alongside other key players in the French and international electronic scene. The festival pays particular attention to hybrid forms that blend music, visual arts, and performance, in line with the evolution of contemporary digital cultures.
For several years, Résonance has been committed to a coherent environmental approach: waste reduction, energy sobriety, promotion of soft mobility, and selection of local service providers. The festival collaborates with the City of Avignon and the Palais des Papes to integrate its approach into the territory's sustainable development policies.
Avignon is a city of festivals. Since 1947, the Festival d'Avignon has established the tradition of major summer cultural events there. Résonance is part of this heritage while offering an alternative to the dominant forms of theatrical expression: an electronic, nocturnal, and participatory response to the festival vocation of the City of Popes.
The new edition of the Festival Résonance is expected in September 2026 in Avignon. For its eighteenth year, the festival will continue its exploration of the heritage sites of the City of Popes, offering several nights of electronic music and audiovisual performances in Avignon's most striking monuments.
The Festival Résonance returns in September 2026 for a new edition in Avignon's heritage sites. True to its unique DNA — creating resonance between electronic and digital cultures and the medieval and baroque architecture of the City of Popes — the festival promises new unforgettable nights.
The program will be announced closer to the event. The Palais des Papes, the Pont Saint-Bénézet, and the Collection Lambert are expected to once again be among the venues featured by the festival. Ticketing will be available on Shotgun.live.
