The essential meeting for current music in Meuse
The Watts à Bar Festival is a contemporary music festival held annually in August in the Parc du Château de Marbeaumont in Bar-le-Duc, Meuse. Created in 2012 by the association Be Real, it offers a two-day eclectic program mixing rock, metal, reggae, electro, and hip-hop, featuring artists rarely programmed in the Grand Est region. Committed to an eco-responsible approach, Watts à Bar favors short supply chains, reusable cups, and local producers.
Since 2012, the Watts à Bar Festival has taken over the Parc du Château de Marbeaumont every summer, a green setting classified in the heart of Bar-le-Duc. This exceptional location, dominated by the castle built in 1905 for the banker Paul Varin-Bernier, offers festival-goers a unique setting where Belle Époque architecture and contemporary music meet. Over the years, the event has become the major musical event in the Meuse department, bringing together several thousand spectators at each edition.
The strength of Watts à Bar lies in its resolutely open programming, which fosters dialogue between the most varied musical styles. From rock to reggae, from metal to electro, including hip-hop and punk, the festival curates surprising lineups each year that reflect the diversity of current music. Among the artists who have graced the festival stage are Tagada Jones, La Ruda, Sidilarsen, Alborosie, Danakil, Rise of the Northstar, Lofofora, and Les Ramoneurs de Menhirs.
Beyond the headliners, the festival makes it a point of honor to program emerging bands and local artists. A music competition each year allows young bands to perform on the main stage, offering valuable visibility to tomorrow's talents. This commitment to discovery contributes to the festival's unique identity.
Watts à Bar is committed to an ambitious eco-festival approach. The organization prioritizes purchasing drinks and products from local producers in the Meuse department and the Lorraine region, favoring organic farming. Reusable and deposit-based cups replace disposable ones, helping to significantly reduce waste production on site. Selective sorting, limiting paper printing, and public awareness complete this environmental system.
The festival is organized by the Be Real association, founded in 2009 with the ambition to energize the cultural life of Bar-le-Duc and the Meuse department. Beyond Watts à Bar, the association carries out other cultural projects throughout the year, contributing to making Meuse a vibrant and attractive territory for contemporary music lovers.
Each edition of the festival takes place over two days, Friday and Saturday, with the site opening in the late afternoon. A campsite is available to festival-goers from 2 PM, allowing them to fully enjoy the weekend. On site, varied food stalls and bars accompany the concerts, while entertainment and relaxation areas complete the festival experience. The warm and family-friendly atmosphere makes Watts à Bar a moment of shared conviviality, where music enthusiasts from across the Grand Est region and beyond gather.
