The Fête du quartier des Glacis: festivities at the foot of the Belfort citadel
The Glacis du Château district is one of Belfort's (90000) most emblematic neighborhoods. Located at the foot of the majestic Vauban citadel and the Lion of Belfort rock, it benefits from an exceptional historical setting that gives it a strong identity and particular appeal. Every summer, this district is the scene of festive events as part of the Festiv'Tour, the traveling initiative of the City of Belfort.
The Festiv'Tour at Glacis: free activities for everyone
When the Festiv'Tour visits the Glacis district, the Oïkos neighborhood house (22, avenue du Capitaine-de-la-Laurencie) and its surroundings are transformed into a festive space. The activities, which are completely free, are designed for all generations:
- Creative recycling workshops to make objects from salvaged materials
- Face painting for children
- Giant wooden games and board games for young and old
- Sports and circus activities led by specialized instructors
- Fun challenges and games suitable for all ages
These activities generally run from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, allowing families to enjoy a full afternoon of activities.
The Glacis district and its heritage
The Glacis district gets its name from the glacis of the Vauban fortifications that once extended over this area. These open spaces, designed to defend the citadel, have now given way to residential areas and green spaces. The proximity of the citadel—a UNESCO World Heritage site for its Vauban fortifications—gives the district a unique atmosphere blending history and contemporary life.
The Oïkos neighborhood house plays a central role in animating the district throughout the year. This socio-cultural center offers regular activities for residents of all ages: classes, workshops, social services, and cultural events.
A district connected to the citadel
The Glacis neighborhood festival is naturally integrated into the heritage identity of this sector of Belfort. The citadel, visible from many points in the district, constantly reminds us of Belfort's unique history, the only city in Alsace-Moselle not annexed by Germany in 1871. This shared past strengthens residents' sense of belonging and gives a particular resonance to the summer celebrations.
