About Sacred Art Trails in Alsace
The Sacred Art Trails in Alsace (Chemins d'art sacré) feature contemporary installations within Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque churches across the Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin regions, stretching from Haguenau to Feldbach. Conceived by Father Charles Singer over twenty-seven years ago, the initiative is managed by the cultural affairs department of the Diocese of Strasbourg. Each artist spends two years crafting a piece specifically for their assigned site, inspired by a biblical quote of their choosing. Admission to every church is free, and the trail attracts approximately one hundred thousand visitors annually, including locals, French tourists, and neighbors from Germany.
Sacred Art Trails in Alsace — edition 2026
For its 28th edition, the Chemin d'art sacré brings together eighteen artists around the theme "Being, living and passing on," from June 3 to October 15, 2026, across twelve parishes between Haguenau and Feldbach. A new feature this year: the Dominican Church in Colmar will host four artists. In Feldbach, the Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church presents Laurence Muller's mixed media exhibition, "Being as a gift," featuring assemblages inspired by light, forests, and blooms, drawing from a quote by Edith Stein.
