The Fête de la Musique in Aubervilliers: the city in music on June 21st
Every June 21st, the city of Aubervilliers celebrates the Fête de la Musique by transforming its squares, gardens, and public spaces into improvised stages. The event, completely free, embodies the original spirit of the Fête de la Musique conceived in 1982: to make the street a space for musical creation and sharing, accessible to all without distinction.
Aubervilliers, a diverse working-class town with multiple cultural facets, hosts a particularly varied Fête de la Musique, reflecting the richness of its inhabitants' musical practices. From rock to Brazilian music, from reggae to electro, including jazz and African music, the programming crosses genres with a freedom that is the charm of this event.
A popular ball with Bringuebal
One of the highlights of the Fête de la Musique in Aubervilliers is the popular ball hosted by the Bringuebal company, which annually takes over the Square Stalingrad and other public spaces in the city. This ball, free and open to all, offers traditional and popular dances in a friendly and festive spirit, bringing together all generations around the joy of dancing. The Bringuebal company, specializing in festive music and dances, brings its expertise and infectious energy to this collective celebration.
The Terre Terre garden
The Terre Terre community garden, located at 223 boulevard Félix Faure, is one of the alternative venues animating the Fête de la Musique in Aubervilliers with a committed and eclectic program. The 2025 edition notably featured a didgeridoo demonstration, a reggae fire-juggling show, an indie rock concert, a baroque-Latin performance with singer Iara Kelly, and an electric rock concert. This type of alternative programming, driven by community actors, contributes to enriching the city's musical offerings and promoting emerging artists.
Concerts in the neighborhoods
Beyond the organized events, the Fête de la Musique in Aubervilliers sparks numerous spontaneous initiatives in the streets and residences. Amateur orchestras, high school bands, neighborhood DJs, and world music ensembles take over sidewalks, courtyards, and cafes to offer informal concerts that punctuate the day with omnipresent music.
The city encourages these initiatives by simplifying administrative procedures for occupying public spaces and supporting cultural associations wishing to organize their own events on June 21st. This dense network of associations makes Aubervilliers a particularly fertile ground for the Fête de la Musique.
A commitment to access to culture
Aubervilliers has been committed for several decades to a strong cultural policy aimed at ensuring everyone's access to artistic creation. The Fête de la Musique is part of this dynamic by offering free, quality programming in local spaces. The city also hosts major cultural institutions such as the Théâtre de la Commune (National Drama Center), the Maison des Langues et des Cultures (House of Languages and Cultures), and several neighborhood sports and cultural facilities that contribute to the vibrancy of June 21st.
