Suarce Donkey Festival — Saturday, August 15, 2026
The Suarce Festival, better known as the Donkey Festival, returns on Saturday, August 15, 2026, to the streets of the village of Suarce (90100), in the South-Territoire de Belfort, a few kilometers from the Swiss border. A landmark event in the region for nearly three decades, it multiplies the village's population by fifteen for a day and attracts several thousand visitors.
From 9 AM, a hundred exhibitors, merchants, and artisans set up their stands in the main street. The day combines two atmospheres: the village festival, with its market and numerous activities, and the musical aspect provided by brass bands and street artists throughout the day.
Throughout the day, demonstrations and entertainment follow one another: donkey exhibition with grooming demonstration, exhibition of old fire trucks, pin-up parade, trial bike demonstrations. Children can enjoy donkey rides, carousels, inflatable structures, trampolines, and an archery stand.
The highlight of the afternoon is the Flower Parade at 3 PM, consisting of decorated floats, flower-decorated bicycles, and music. The evening continues with open-air concerts in a popular festive atmosphere, with a refreshment stand and on-site catering.

Suarce: A Village in the Heart of the South-Territoire
The village of Suarce (90100) is located in the south of the Territoire de Belfort, in the Communauté de Communes Sud-Territoire. Close to the Swiss border and the canton of Basel-Country, this village benefits from a remarkable geographical location at the crossroads of France and the Helvetic Confederation.
The Donkey Festival: The Pride of Suarce
The Suarce Festival is, above all, the famous Donkey Festival, organized annually on August 15th. This event has become a benchmark among the village festivals of the region, recognized for its scale and family-friendly nature. It multiplies the village's population by fifteen for a day and welcomes several thousand visitors from across the region.
From 9 AM, a hundred exhibitors, merchants, and artisans set up their stands in the main street, including demonstrations by traditional artisans (potters, clog makers, basket weavers). The day unfolds with two atmospheres: the village festival with its market and entertainment, and the musical aspect provided by brass bands and street artists.
Highlights include: the donkey exhibition with grooming demonstrations, the exhibition of old fire trucks, the pin-up parade, motorcycle trial demonstrations, and numerous activities for children (donkey rides, carousels, inflatable structures, trampoline, archery). The Floral Parade at 3 PM, with its decorated floats, floral bicycles, and music, is the highlight of the afternoon, before the open-air concerts in the evening.
Suarce and its Border Heritage
Suarce's border location gives it a particular cultural identity, marked by Alsatian, Franche-Comté, and Swiss influences. The village benefits from a preserved natural heritage, and the Donkey Festival is an opportunity to celebrate this unique identity in a friendly setting.
