Votive festival in Remoulins, Gard
The Votive Festival of Remoulins is the unmissable summer event in this commune of Gard, located near the Pont du Gard and the Gardon river. Since 1949, this votive festival has perpetuated Camargue and Provençal traditions, annually attracting residents and visitors who come to share several days of festivities marked by conviviality.
The event is organized by the Remoulins Festival Committee, chaired by Louis Bourbal, in close collaboration with the Town of Remoulins. The committee coordinates the program, mobilizes volunteers, and welcomes partner manades. The festival unfolds in the town center, particularly around the Place de la Madone, which serves as a central point for meals and dances.
Like all major votive festivals in Gard, the Votive Festival of Remoulins revolves around Camargue bullfighting traditions: pégoulade and opening parade of associations, handing over of the town keys, abrivado and bandido (bull releases and returns in the streets), Camargue bull races in the arenas, taureau-piscine (bull-pool game), bullfighting competitions, and the Cerise d'Or final. On the festive side, the program annually includes dances with orchestras (Franck Oriat, Rimshot, and other regional bands in recent editions), neighborhood meals at Place de la Madone, a pétanque competition, an old-fashioned lunch, the blessing of horses in the presbytery courtyard, and a closing meal organized by registration at the town hall.
Remoulins, a commune within the Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard community, sees its population come alive for several days around the votive festival. Local and regional manadiers (notably manade Labourayre) participate in the parade and races. The festival contributes to the commune's influence and is part of the summer calendar of Gard votive festivals, alongside Beaucaire, Aigues-Mortes, and Vauvert.
The 78th Fête Votive de Remoulins will take place from July 16 to 20, 2026, in the town center. Five days of Camargue traditions (abrivado, bandido, Camargue races), dances, and convivial meals at Place de la Madone, under the aegis of the Comité des Fêtes Remoulinois.
The Fête Votive de Remoulins returns for its 78th edition from Thursday, July 16 to Monday, July 20, 2026. For five days, the town center of Remoulins lives to the rhythm of Camargue and Provençal traditions, with mostly free activities, open to all residents and visitors passing through the Gard.
Organized by the Comité des Fêtes Remoulinois, chaired by Louis Bourbal, the 2026 edition revives the proven formula of recent years: pégoulade and opening parade of associations, handing over of the town keys, abrivado and bandido (release and return of bulls in the streets), Camargue races in the arenas, taureau-piscine, pétanque competition, meals and dances at Place de la Madone, old-fashioned lunch, blessing of horses, and the Cerise d'Or final.
The detailed day-by-day program (precise timings, participating manades, dance orchestras) will be published by the Comité des Fêtes Remoulinois in June 2026 on its official Facebook page (@comitedesfetesremoulins) and relayed by the Town of Remoulins. Registrations for the closing meal are made at the town hall before the deadline announced by the committee.
