Traveling theater festival in the Cher
The Feux Follets Festival was born from the desire to democratize access to theater in the rural areas of the Cher. Organized by the Communauté de communes du Pays de Nérondes, this traveling festival tours about fifteen towns in the department over several weeks, between February and March, to bring live performance directly to the residents.
Each edition of the festival offers two theatrical creations: a show for families and a show for a general audience. These plays are designed to be transportable anywhere, without heavy spatial or technical constraints. They can thus be performed in town halls, gymnasiums, schools, community centers, or village halls, adapting to the available spaces in each host town.
Beyond the performances, the Feux Follets Festival focuses on cultural mediation. Meetings with the artists are organized after the shows, allowing the public to discuss the creations, artistic processes, and themes addressed. Theater workshops are also offered in some towns, giving participants the opportunity to discover the dramatic arts from the inside.
The traveling nature of the festival is at the core of its identity. The organizing company wishes to tour the Cher and promote its art in the region where it originates. This approach allows it to reach an audience far from major cities and cultural institutions, making theater an art of proximity, accessible, and popular. The festival thus highlights the cultural richness of rural areas and contributes to the dynamism of small towns.
The Feux Follets Festival will return from February 18 to March 18, 2026, for a new traveling edition in the Cher department. Organized by the Communauté de communes du Pays de Nérondes, the festival will continue its cultural proximity approach by bringing live theater directly to rural towns.
Two new shows will be created for the occasion: a family show and a general audience show, designed to adapt to various venues (town halls, village halls, gymnasiums, schools). Meetings with artists and theater workshops will complement the program, strengthening the link between creators and the public.
The festival travels through about fifteen towns in the Cher department, mainly around the Pays de Nérondes (18350), but also in other areas of the territory.
The festival generally takes place over several weeks between February and March, with performances spread across different towns.
The shows are performed in various locations: town halls, village halls, gymnasiums, schools, community centers, depending on the infrastructure available in each town.
Prices vary depending on the towns and performance venues. Information available from each host town or the Communauté de communes.
