Légendes de Nevers
A festival of fantasy and imagination at the Porte du Croux in Nevers
2026
About Légendes de Nevers
Légendes de Nevers brings together storytellers, skilled artisans, and performance troupes to celebrate the world of fantasy and local folklore at the historic Porte du Croux and along the rampart walk in Nevers. Launched in 2024 by the local association De Cartes et de Dés, the festival features role-playing game stages, historical martial arts demonstrations, and a vibrant craft market. Each edition centers on a unique theme: werewolves and medieval/Renaissance dances in 2025, and the mysteries of the Morvan in 2026. Admission is free, and the screen-free program is designed to delight visitors of all ages.
Légendes de Nevers — edition 2026
For its 3rd edition on Saturday, September 26, 2026, the festival embraces the theme "Mysteries of the Morvan": wolves, folklore, and traditional Morvan craftsmanship weave through the day's performances and workshops. The program features a theatrical retelling of the Big Bad Wolf, a fire and acrobatics show, medieval combat demonstrations, and a folk concert by Penny Lies, culminating in a nocturnal lantern-lit walk through the legends of Nevers.
The inaugural Légendes de Nevers festival took place on September 28, 2024, at the Porte du Croux, organized by the association De Cartes et de Dés. It centered on tabletop and board games, historical martial arts, cosplay, an artisan market, and literary spaces. The 2nd edition, held on September 27, 2025, expanded to the rampart promenade and introduced a literary village dedicated to fantasy and local folklore, costumed parades, a giant game of Werewolves, and medieval and Renaissance dancing.
The 3rd edition on September 26, 2026, focuses on the "Mysteries of the Morvan" theme, highlighting the region's traditional crafts, wolf lore, and tall tales. The event runs from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, once again hosted at the Porte du Croux and along the rampart promenade.
