Music for everyone in the streets of Mende

Each year around June 21st, the Fête de la Musique in Mende transforms the Lozère capital into a huge open-air stage. Organized by the City of Mende, this celebration of music takes over the streets, squares, and gardens of the city center with a rich and eclectic program, entirely free.

An innovative participatory budget

Since 2022, the City of Mende has been enhancing the Fête de la Musique thanks to a dedicated participatory budget. Residents are invited to propose and vote for the events they wish to see programmed, making this event a truly civic and collective celebration.

An eclectic program

The program unfolds over several days and offers a wide variety of music:

• Various concerts: jazz, pop, rock, electro, French chanson, world music, variety acts
• L'Harmonie de Mende concert in the Garden of the Departmental Council
• Portuguese folklore and traditional dances
• Open stage for amateur musicians
• Blind test and karaoke in the evening
• Just Dance Party: dance activity for everyone
• Barrel organ and musical showcase
• Exhibition on rock in Lozère

Activities for young people

Schoolchildren also participate in the festival with school choirs performing in the gardens and squares, and specific activities are offered to neighborhoods with festive evenings hosted by local DJs.

Concerts and activities take place in Mende's emblematic locations: Place Urbain V, the Garden of the Departmental Council, Place de la Fraternité in Fontanilles, and numerous terraces and squares in the city center.
