Landaise folklore, Basque pelota and producers' market in Moliets-et-Maâ
The Soirées Basque-Landaises of Moliets-et-Maâ are an unmissable summer event celebrating the traditions of the Basque Country and the Landes. Organized every Tuesday evening from mid-July to mid-August by the Garenn'Club on the village's fronton, these evenings feature a local producers' market starting at 6 p.m., followed by a Landaise folklore show with the famous stilt walkers at 9 p.m., and then a game of Basque pelota with a grand chistera at 10 p.m. An authentic and festive moment that immerses spectators and visitors in the heart of Basque-Landaise culture.
Every summer, the fronton of Moliets-et-Maâ comes alive on Tuesday evenings to host the Soirées Basque-Landaises, a festive and cultural event that showcases the age-old traditions of the Basque-Landaise region. Organized by the Garenn'Club, a dynamic local association, these evenings have become an unmissable event for both locals and holidaymakers on the Landes coast.
The Soirées Basque-Landaises offer a three-part program that provides a complete immersion in local culture:
The Soirées Basque-Landaises perfectly embody the dual cultural identity of this part of the Landes, at the crossroads of Landaise and Basque traditions. Moliets-et-Maâ, a commune located between pine forest and ocean, is an ideal place to experience this encounter between two neighboring and complementary cultures. The fronton, a typical architectural element of the villages of the Southwest, serves as a setting for these events that perpetuate a living heritage.
Grillades and drinks are available on-site throughout the evening, allowing spectators to eat in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The tables and benches set up around the fronton invite sharing and exchange between locals and visitors, in the best spirit of the Landaise festival.
The Garenn'Club, a local association in Moliets-et-Maâ, is the driving force behind these evenings. Composed of volunteers passionate about local culture and traditions, the association works all year round to liven up the village life and pass on the Basque-Landaise heritage to new generations.
The evenings take place every Tuesday from July 15 to August 19. The program unfolds in three stages: opening of the producers' market at 6:00 PM, Landaise folklore show with stilt walkers at 9:00 PM, and Basque pelota game with grand chistera at 10:00 PM. Allow approximately 3 to 4 hours to enjoy the entire evening.
