The Soirées Basque-Landaises: living tradition in Moliets-et-Maâ

Every summer, the fronton of Moliets-et-Maâ comes alive on Tuesday evenings to host the Soirées Basque-Landaises, a festive and cultural event that showcases the age-old traditions of the Basque-Landaise region. Organized by the Garenn'Club, a dynamic local association, these evenings have become an unmissable event for both locals and holidaymakers on the Landes coast.

A program rich in traditions

The Soirées Basque-Landaises offer a three-part program that provides a complete immersion in local culture:

  • 6:00 PM — Producers' Market: local artisans, producers, and creators set up their stalls around the fronton. It's an opportunity to discover and taste the region's gastronomic specialties: foie gras, sheep's cheese, cured meats, Landaise pastries, Landes wines, and many other local products.
  • 9:00 PM — Landaise Folklore: the show begins with a spectacular demonstration by the Landaise stilt walkers, these emblematic figures who move on their long wooden stilts, perpetuating a tradition born in the vast expanses of the moors.
  • 10:00 PM — Basque Pelota: the evening continues with a game of Basque pelota with a grand chistera, a traditional Basque sport that fascinates with the skill and power of the players.

The Basque-Landaise spirit

The Soirées Basque-Landaises perfectly embody the dual cultural identity of this part of the Landes, at the crossroads of Landaise and Basque traditions. Moliets-et-Maâ, a commune located between pine forest and ocean, is an ideal place to experience this encounter between two neighboring and complementary cultures. The fronton, a typical architectural element of the villages of the Southwest, serves as a setting for these events that perpetuate a living heritage.

Catering and conviviality

Grillades and drinks are available on-site throughout the evening, allowing spectators to eat in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The tables and benches set up around the fronton invite sharing and exchange between locals and visitors, in the best spirit of the Landaise festival.

An event driven by the Garenn'Club

The Garenn'Club, a local association in Moliets-et-Maâ, is the driving force behind these evenings. Composed of volunteers passionate about local culture and traditions, the association works all year round to liven up the village life and pass on the Basque-Landaise heritage to new generations.
