Festival of Gascon artistic and cultural expressions in Soustons
Lo Gran Truc is a festival dedicated to Gascon artistic and cultural expressions, organized every autumn around Saint-Luc in Soustons. Supported by the GASCON Lanas association, this festive and family event celebrates the Gascon language and traditions through concerts, polyphonies, festive meals, and live performances. Lo Gran Truc, meaning "the big hit" in Gascon, offers a moment of conviviality around a living cultural heritage.
The Festival Gascon Lo Gran Truc is an annual event that celebrates Gascon culture in all its diversity and vitality. Organized in Soustons by the association GASCON Lanas (Gropement Associatiu per la Sauveguarda de la Cultura en las nostas Lanas), this festival is a highlight of cultural life in the Landes region, combining tradition and modernity.
Every autumn, Lo Gran Truc brings together lovers of the Gascon language, a branch of Occitan spoken in the Landes and beyond. The festival offers a rich and varied program that highlights the many facets of this living culture:
The association GASCON Lanas is a federation of local associations involved in promoting the Gascon language: Gascon classes, dances, songs, theater, and cultural documentation work. The Lo Gran Truc festival is their flagship event, allowing the socialization of the Gascon language in a festive and accessible setting for everyone.
Traditionally organized around Saint-Luc in October, the festival spans several days with highlights such as the Friday evening concerts in the Soustons church, the "Gran Chap" festive meal on Saturday evening followed by a concert, and street entertainment throughout the weekend. Artists like Didier Tousis, Papa Gahus (Bigourdan rock), and Daunas de CΓ²r (female polyphonies) have featured in recent editions.
Much more than just a festival, Lo Gran Truc is a militant act for the preservation and transmission of the Gascon language. In a spirit of typically Landes conviviality, the event invites everyone to discover or rediscover this language and culture that are an integral part of the identity of the Landes.
By Car: Soustons is located on the D652 between Dax and Bayonne, about 30 minutes from each city. From the A63 motorway, take the Soustons or Saint-Geours-de-Maremne exit. Free parking is available on the streets of the town center and in public parking lots near the performance venues.

The "Gran Chap" festive meal on Saturday evening is the gastronomic highlight of the festival, offering Landes and Gascon specialties in a friendly atmosphere. Reservation is essential with the association. A bar with local wines and drinks is available throughout the events. Small Landes-style catering is offered during the day.
The festival is largely conducted in Gascon, with translations and explanations in French for those unfamiliar with the language. It's a unique opportunity to discover this living language in a festive and accessible context for everyone, including children.
