About Adour Afición

The Festival Adour Afición is a charity bullfighting event held at the Henri Capdeville bullring in Saint-Sever, supporting the bullfighting school founded in 2005 by maestro Richard Milian in Cauna, Landes. Organized by the Peña Jeune Afición—of which Richard Milian has been the patron since 1979—the festival brings together former students who have since become matadors. It is not an annual event; the two known editions have celebrated the school's milestones: its tenth anniversary on September 26, 2015, and its twentieth on November 11, 2025.

The most recent festival: the school's twentieth anniversary on November 11, 2025

The Peña Jeune Afición organized this charity festival to conclude its 41st Semaine Taurine. The proceeds of €5,000 were donated to the school, with the Peña Jeune Afición presenting the funds to Richard Milian on February 20, 2026.

Festival Adour Afición: Celebrating Richard Milian's bullfighting school in Saint-Sever

The Festival Adour Afición is a charity bullfighting event hosted at the Henri Capdeville bullring in Saint-Sever. The Peña Jeune Afición organizes it to conclude its Taurine and Cultural Week, with all proceeds donated to the Adour Afición school based in Cauna.

The Adour Afición bullfighting school

The school was founded in 2005 by Richard Milian, operating without any public funding or subsidies. Two young men from the Landes region, Mathieu Guillon and Thomas Dufau, approached the maestro in Cauna, who was already mentoring a young Portuguese student, Antonio João Ferreira. It remains the only bullfighting school in the Southwest. Operating as a small, private group, the school prioritizes hard work, discipline, honesty, and humility over mere technical skill.

Students turned matadors

Five former students have taken their 'alternative' (graduation to matador status): Antonio João Ferreira in 2008 in Mont-de-Marsan, Thomas Dufau in 2011, Mathieu Guillon in 2012, Dorian Canton in 2019 in Villeneuve-de-Marsan, and Yon Lamothe in 2023 at Le Plumaçon. Young Ekaitz Moreno Leal represents the next generation.

An anniversary event, not an annual one

The two known editions of the festival have marked the school's anniversaries: the tenth on September 26, 2015, and the twentieth in 2025. In other years, the Peña Jeune Afición's Taurine Week concludes with a novillada without picadors, featuring livestock from Vieux Sulauze in 2023 and 2026, and El Palmeral in 2024.

The 20th Anniversary Edition

Originally scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 4:30 PM, the event was postponed to Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the same time due to a municipal decree issued on October 17 banning bullfighting spectacles because of an outbreak of lumpy skin disease. The lineup featured six bulls—five from the Camino de Santiago ranch and one from Alain Bonijol—for matadors Antonio João Ferreira, Mathieu Guillon 'el Monteño', Thomas Dufau, Yon Lamothe, and Dorian Canton; the school's top student faced the final bull. Between 900 and 1,000 spectators attended. Mathieu Guillon, Thomas Dufau, and Dorian Canton each earned an ear, Yon Lamothe received an ovation, and Richard Milian was awarded the critics' special prize. The €5,000 in proceeds was presented to the school on February 20, 2026.
