The Festive Days of the Écomusée de Marquèze: Grande Lande in celebration
The Écomusée de Marquèze, located in Sabres in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park, is an exceptional heritage site that brings to life the daily life of the Grande Lande in the 19th century. Throughout its opening season, from April to September, the ecomuseum organizes themed festive days that combine heritage, culture, nature, and conviviality.
A unique heritage site accessible by train
Marquèze is a reconstructed former Landes district, accessible only by a historic train departing from Sabres station. This railway journey through the maritime pine forest is an adventure in itself. On site, visitors discover traditional half-timbered houses, shepherd huts, barns, a mill, vegetable gardens, and old breed animals, in a preserved natural setting of 25 hectares.
Events throughout the season
The Festive Days punctuate the season with various events celebrating Landes traditions:
- Easter at Marquèze: egg hunts, tasting of the shepherd's Easter omelet, traditional Gascon music
- Shearing Day: sheep shearing demonstrations, traditional folklore shows
- European Night of Museums: special evening with nocturnal activities
- Summer Evenings: concerts, theater and puppet shows in the enchanting setting of the district, accessible by the 6:30 PM train
- Traditional Hunts and Fishing Day: meetings with local hunters and fishermen, initiations to ancestral techniques
- European Heritage Days: free discovery weekend with activities by partner associations of the Regional Natural Park
A commitment to transmission
The Marquèze ecomuseum is managed by the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park. Its mission is to preserve and transmit the natural and cultural heritage of the Grande Lande. The Festive Days are part of this approach by offering moments of sharing and discovery accessible to all audiences, from families to heritage enthusiasts.
Shows in a natural setting
The summer evenings offer a unique experience: attending a concert or show in the heart of nature, in the preserved setting of the Marquèze district, as the sun sets over the Landes forest. Theater companies, musicians, and storytellers animate these magical evenings that blend contemporary creation and traditional heritage.
