The Gascon pirate adventure in the heart of the Landes forest
Cap La Hèsta is a Gascon pirate festival rooted in the heart of the Landes forest, at the Cap de Pin site in Solférino. Created by the association L'Équipage du Béret Noir, it combines eclectic concerts, street arts, children's entertainment, and discovery of Gascon heritage. On the program: live music from reggae to rock, an immersive exhibition on the pirate Jean Lafitte, resin tapping demonstrations, treasure hunts, and regional gastronomy.
Rooted in the heart of the Landes forest, on the natural site of Cap de Pin in Solférino, Cap La Hèsta is a unique festival of its kind, blending Gascon culture, pirate universe, and contemporary creation. Imagined and supported by the association L'Équipage du Béret Noir, this multidisciplinary festival makes Solférino the epicenter of Gascon culture for a weekend in October.
The name of the festival evokes both the cap – the Landes headdress, the beret – and the hèsta, the party in Gascon. Cap La Hèsta crosses pirate stories with the history and traditions of Gascogne, creating a festive and quirky universe where music, street shows, crafts, and local heritage come together.
The festival highlights the figure of Jean Lafitte, a famous 19th-century Gascon pirate and privateer, originally from southwestern France, who ruled the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. An immersive exhibition traces his extraordinary journey and his ties to Gascogne, between legends and historical reality.
Cap La Hèsta offers a rich and varied program designed for all ages:
The Cap de Pin site offers a remarkable natural setting for the festival. Nestled among maritime pines, this forest clearing transforms for a weekend into a true Gascon pirate village, with its stages, exhibition areas, play areas, and dining areas. The atmosphere under the pines, between light and shadow, gives the festival a unique and magical feel.
L'Équipage du Béret Noir, an association based in the Landes, upholds values of sharing, conviviality, and promotion of Gascon heritage. The festival is part of a cultural development initiative in a rural area, contributing to the influence of Solférino and the Haute Lande region.
The 2nd edition of Cap La Hèsta is announced for October 2026 at Cap de Pin in Solférino. The Gascon pirate festival will return with concerts, street arts, children's entertainment, and Gascon heritage. Detailed program to be announced.
