Nanterre is a city marked by its working-class, university, and political history. Birthplace of the May 1968 movement with its Paris-Nanterre university, a city in the red suburbs that has known how to renew and transform itself, Nanterre celebrates the National Holiday with a republican sincerity that shines through in each edition. Fireworks light up a city that continues to be built, between the skyscrapers of La Défense at its gates and popular neighborhoods with a strong identity.
The National Holiday is part of a rich festive calendar: the street festival Parade(s) in June, the Fête de la Musique on June 21, the Fête de l'Engagement in September, and the numerous neighborhood parties that punctuate the calendar. Nanterre is a city that knows how to party, and the National Holiday is its most symbolic expression.
