The Wine Night: Jewel of the Alsace Wine Route

Every first Saturday of July, Dambach-la-Ville experiences its most emblematic event: the Wine Night. This fortified medieval city, nestled in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard between Sélestat and Obernai, is one of the most charming villages on the Alsace Wine Route. Its 14th-century ramparts, fortified gates, and richly flowered half-timbered houses provide a backdrop for a wine festival that combines tradition, gastronomy, and conviviality.

Grand Cru Frankstein in the Spotlight

The winegrowers of Dambach-la-Ville set up their stalls in the Place du Marché to present a selection of high-quality wines:

  • Grand Cru Frankstein: the emblematic granitic terroir of the commune, producing exceptional Rieslings and Gewurztraminers
  • Late Harvests and Noble Rot Selections
  • Crémant d'Alsace and traditional grape varieties: Pinot Gris, Muscat, Sylvaner

Tastings allow visitors to discover the unique influence of the granitic terroir on the wines, a mineral character that distinguishes Dambach-la-Ville's wines in the Alsatian wine landscape.

An Illuminated Medieval Setting

The magic of the Wine Night also lies in its atmosphere: the ramparts, towers, and fortified gates are illuminated, creating a fairy-tale medieval decor. From 6 PM, flambéed tarts (Flammekueche) accompany the first tastings. A grand open-air ball, led by a variety band, keeps visitors dancing until the early hours in the city's cobbled streets.

The 3 Days of the Vineyard

Beyond the Wine Night, Dambach-la-Ville also hosts the 3 Days of the Vineyard in May, a free festival with an Alsatian producers' market, a French wine exhibition, and family activities. Throughout the summer, the village offers aperitif concerts every Sunday morning in front of the town hall, guided tours of the medieval village, and commented walks on the wine trail.

Dambach-la-Ville, Pearl of the Alsatian Vineyard

With its 460 hectares of vines, Dambach-la-Ville is the largest wine-producing commune in Alsace. The village, dominated by the Saint-Sébastien chapel perched in the vineyards, offers exceptional panoramas of the Alsatian plain and the Vosges foothills. The Confrérie des Bienheureux du Frankstein (Brotherhood of the Blessed of Frankstein) perpetuates wine traditions and organizes the annual 'Granite Stones and Wines' event.
