About Franco-Aragonese Festival

The Franco-Aragonese Festival is an annual celebration of Pyrenean culture organized on the first weekend of August in Saint-Lary-Soulan, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Born from the twinning between Saint-Lary-Soulan and the Spanish town of Boltaña in Aragon, this festival mixes dances, songs, and folklore from both sides of the Pyrenees. French and Aragonese folk groups liven up the village streets, while two feria evenings with banda, Paquito, Toro de Fuego, and fireworks complete a festive and friendly program.

The Pyrenees without borders

The Franco-Aragonese Festival in Saint-Lary-Soulan embodies the friendship and deep cultural ties between the communities on both sides of the Pyrenees. Born from the twinning between Saint-Lary-Soulan and Boltaña, a town in the province of Huesca in Aragon, this festival has celebrated the richness of the shared Pyrenean cultural heritage for years.

Folklore and dances from both sides

The program highlights emblematic folk groups from both sides of the border:

  • Les Pastourelles de Campan, guardians of Bigourdan folklore
  • Los Gaiteros del Somontano and Los Gaiteros de la Tierra Plana, Aragonese bagpipers
  • Los Jotas de Aragon Zaragoza, traditional jota dancers
  • El Grupo del Valle de Bielsa, representing the culture of the Bielsa Valley
  • Les Chanteurs du Mont Royal

Artisans from the Spanish village of San Juan de Plan also offer demonstrations of traditional spinning.

Feria evenings and festive atmosphere

Two feria evenings liven up the streets of Saint-Lary on Friday and Saturday nights. A banda parades down the main street to the rhythm of the Paquito, a Toro de Fuego (fire bull) ignites the night, and fireworks conclude the festivities. The village cafes and restaurants offer special entertainment for the occasion.
