Traditional monthly fair in the border town of Territoire de Belfort
The Foire de Delle is a traditional monthly fair held on the second Monday of each month in the border town of Delle. Renowned throughout the Territoire de Belfort and neighboring Swiss cantons, this morning market brings together local producers, traveling merchants, and cross-border visitors in an authentic rural market atmosphere.
The Foire de Delle is one of the most regular traditional fairs in the Territoire de Belfort. It is held every second Monday of the month (with exceptions), perpetuating a centuries-old commercial and rural tradition. Located on the Franco-Swiss border, Delle occupies a geographically advantageous position for trade, which explains the fair's longevity and vitality.
Each month, the fair brings together local producers from the Territoire de Belfort and farmers from the region, offering seasonal fruits and vegetables, dairy products, poultry, and regional specialties. Traveling merchants from all over Franche-Comté complete the offering with textiles, hardware, kitchen utensils, and various items. The typical morning atmosphere of French rural fairs prevails on the Place du Champ-de-Foire.
The proximity to Switzerland gives the Foire de Delle a unique cross-border dimension. Residents from neighboring Swiss communes—Boncourt, Porrentruy, and villages in the Bernese Jura—regularly cross the border to shop here. This Franco-Swiss mix contributes to the fair's special atmosphere and testifies to the close ties woven over centuries between the two sides of the border.
Among the year's editions, the April fair holds particular significance, coinciding with the return of spring. It attracts more visitors and may feature additional stalls for the occasion. It is also the time when producers begin to offer the first early vegetables of the season, such as asparagus and new vegetables from the region.
The Foire de Delle will be held on April 13, 2026 (second Monday of the month), at Place du Champ-de-Foire, featuring local producers, traveling merchants, and the usual Franco-Swiss cross-border atmosphere.
